2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Great for getting up and running By Novacaine I needed to start doing animations using Flash so I bought this book. It was just what I needed. The book is very easy to follow and it is broken down in easy to understand chapters. I wanted to understand frame by frame animation and tweaning. There are chapters and pages dedicated to exactly those things. The information is easy to locate and you can jump around and focus on what you want. I didn't care about actionscript or sound so I just skipped those areas.I am a professional artist and have used Photoshop and 3DS Max for decades so I'm familiar with keyframe animation and adobe software. This made it a little easier for me to learn Flash but in some ways harder. The way Flash does keyframes and drawing/sketching is way different from a 3D package or from Photoshop. This book allowed me to easily step through the lessons and figure out what was going on. And the "lessons" are about two pages each. Quick right to the point, ok, move on.When buying this book I also purchased the "missing manual" book. That was ok, but this book blew that away. I highly recommend this book and I'm very glad my wife suggested the visual series to me. I'm now a huge fan. I hope this helps you make a decision.

Because it's required, I have to say it's just what I wanted... however, from my point of view, the book is so simple as to be confusing. I am the kind of person that has to know why I am doing something. This book is great at explaining how, but misses out on the why.That being said, the illustrations and instructions are very clear, and the step-by-step process is easy to follow... What's missing is the answer to, "and if it doesn't do what the book says it should, what do I do?"

Teach Yourself VISUALLY Flash CS4 Professional By Amazon Customer Great quick start books It quickly gives the basics visually when a new update comes out. Nice to look up how to do simple things. Book is great for review but does not go into depth on techniques. Quickly shows you how to do things many other books take pages to go thru. Wish print was bigger in examples.
