Jess is on the hunt for a wanted man who he finds in the town of Navarro, Texas. While there, he saves the owner of a saloon and his young son, Dudley. He leaves Navarro only to be sought out by Dudley again who asks for his help. Jess returns to Navarro to help Dudley and his pa, but while there, he finds out that the town officials seem to have a strange grip on the townsfolk. All the men in town are afraid and won’t fight against the town officials and a rich rancher seems to have some strange dealings going on. He leaves Navarro again and runs into two Texas Rangers, who have been trailing the same man he is hunting. They team up for a while and Jess and the two Rangers travel to Navarro, where the Rangers arrest the newly appointed sheriff after finding out he is wanted for petty crimes. Jess leaves again, believing the two Texas Rangers are staying in Navarro to keep the peace and maybe find out what is really going on. When he find out that Dudley has been hurt and his pa is back in jail after losing his saloon to the bank and that the madam of the local whorehouse has finally confronted the Mayor and the Sheriff, he returns to Navarro to straighten it up once and for all, but the only help he finds in town is Daisy and her girls at the whorehouse.

By Mary Jane Kail I think this is my favorite Jess Williams so far...but then, I say that about all of them. Jess involuntarily ends up with two partners, Saul Devore & Monroe Krous, both Texas Rangers. They kind of made themselves his partners because they seemed to think they deserved a part of the $3,000 bounty on the outlaw Carmichael that Jess has shot. In addition to this Devore thinks that Jess owes him a new horse and long gun since Jess shot his horse out from under him and it landed on top of this gun.I liked the fact that most of it took place in Navaroo, Texas so you weren't wandering all over the place & got to know the people of that community from the saloon owner, Clarence & his son Dudley to the unexpected help Jess gets from the town Madam, Daisy & her girls. Good old Jess is really shows his kind heart in this one. Sometimes I think he's too good because people tend to take advantage of him.I'm wondering just how old Jess is in this one because Daisy sure knows how to make him blush. So cute.As with all the series it's best to read them from the beginning & I highly recommend all of them.

He could barely hear what she was saying, but it sounded like "It's time to let me go." By Ted Just finish #37 "TROUBLE IN NAVARRO" and again, enjoyed every page. For me, the best part was the following. Three outlaws just drew on Jess at the same time, all three now laid on the floor, two dead, one still alive, but fading quickly. "I never thought you could ever beat all three of us to the draw," he said, grimacing in pain. You never said who you was neither." "Name is Jess Williams." You could see Roth's eyes widening as the name sunk into his foggy brain. "If I'd of known it was you, I'd have shot myself," he said woefully as his head tilted to the side as he headed for hell.

Does not let you down as it is full of the things that you have come to expect from Jess Williams. An excellent read, full of characters that add to the story, and what a story it is. Another town run by crooked town officials, a crooked rancher, paid for sheriff and not just one, and the story builds from there. Read this one folks and you won't be disappointed. I sure wasn't, and I've read all of the Jess Williams series, and they just keep getting better.
