Not as good as other general team management books, and completely lacking in specific detail concerning technical teams. I bought this hoping for some insight into managing software developers, but it left me no wiser. I think the reviewers giving this five stars must be paid, seriously...

There are no real contents in the book. It is completely lacking of strategy and tactic about how to build up and manage a technical team.This book is a self-published book. I know a guy who self-published a book, then gave books away for free, beg people to write five stars reviews on Amazon. Some people may get raise or promotion after five stars reviews written.Need to be careful of those self-marketing books. Don't waste your money!

By Marc Nussbaum, Audible Rush CEO "Technical Minds" is far superior to the typical overly generalized management book. It gives specific, usable advice and is applicable to new managers and to experienced managers alike. I highly recommend this book for senior people to hand out to their own management staff as a refresher to help create a professional engineering atmosphere and to accelerate team results. It is a quick read and its content can be used as a jumping-off point for group discussions in staff and team-building meetings.There are lots of management books that purport to talk about WHAT leadership is. This is the first book I've come across that tells you HOW to practice managerial leadership. Specifically, it explains the things you need to do (and not do) to create a reputation for inspirational leadership and a team environment that delivers results. The author uses a series of simple, real-life stories from his years inside several insanely successful Fortune 50 high technology companies and his years of personally training engineering managers and directors.There are 10 primary chapters with titles that seem obvious and trite at first. But start to read and you quickly realize that the advice inside is much more helpful that most anything you have read before on this subject. For example, chapter 3: "Communicate, Communicate and Communicate Some More" clearly spells out HOW you need to do this successfully to keep the team happy and effective: Tell everyone what the goal is (schedules and more). Tell each contributor why their piece is important to the success of the project, how the project will contribute to the success of the company and how it will contribute to a better world (this may take some thought). Be sure everyone knows each other's roles and responsibilities and where they can each go for help. Set up a project portal to hold all this information. Teach your managers how to lead a meeting, and how to not tick people off with their emails. Learn why setting priorities is the one key item many managers do poorly and how powerful this simple, vacuum-filling action can be to keep the team happy and set expectations with those waiting for results. This was a brief summary of what I learned just from Chapter 3.The book has lots of easily implemented advice that can be put to use the next day. I highly recommend it for technical managers wanting to check out what tools they may be leaving on the table and for new managers looking for a head start on creating their own personal brand of effective leadership.
