I bought the book expecting to be about the Navy SEALs. But as I read it it was more about Benghazi in the attack happened. There were good stories in it. Well written. But it to me did deliver but the author advertise.

Previously untold stories of missions are told. Details are examined from the elimination of Osama Bin Laden to the failure of the Obama administration to provide support in Benghazi. No punches are pulled. Names are named and the blame is assigned. Anyone with a military background or who desires an understanding of these elite teams should rad this book. One fact becomes obvious. The Obama administration has placed the integrity of these elite warriors and their families at risk for political gain. It's treason.

If you have read 3 or 4 books about the SEALs then unfortunately this book will be all old news to you. I didn't find one new fun story or piece of Intel that I already knew,so I was disappointed, however I did agree with the view in the authors book on keeping politics out when it comes to getting the job done and how ROE effect our SEAL teams in doing what is needed. I feel this book lacked the humor always found in other SEAL books.

By Bob Pardue When visiting California a few months back, I saw a ton of houses with solar panels. My sister lives there and she said the installation costs were enormous. I'm handy with tools (thanks, Dad!), but I knew nothing about solar power systems, so I'm the "absolute beginner" in the book title. Well, this book took care of that gap in my knowledge. Now I could hold my own in a discussion of deep-cycle batteries and power inverters.Step-by-step guide? A lot, but not everything is in the book. However, the book has links to the author's website that has videos, etc. to provide all you need. That's a lot of free information.Another welcome feature of the book is that the author supplies links to suppliers of the hardware, Amazon in particular. I didn't realize how inexpensive it might be to install a basic system. Granted, to install a system to run my whole house would be a lot more expensive, but in the long run it would save me a bundle. Now that I have a basic knowledge and a website where I can find out more, I'll have to consider going solar in the future.Thanks, Mary!

Too basic By Matthew This book did nothing to cover the details around the wiring installation and electronical considerations of the components of the solar solution. The book describes the most basic possible system and didn't even discuss or show diagrams about actually wiring up the electronics. It is more of a pamphlet on power consumption of electronics devices and sizing solar power for a tent.

Highly Readable Book About JavaScript and Functional Programming By Bobby Maze This is a well-written book about JavaScript - not an easy task in my mind. The explanations of the components that make up functional programming are very clear and use simple examples. The example explaining closures made me grasp this staple functional feature more than any I had read before. I "got it", which makes me really appreciate this book and it's author. I've read other explanations, but this one clicked with me.Also, relations are pointed out between functional features that make it easy to see how some aspects of functional programming enable other aspects. For instance, pure functions enable lazy evaluation. With this explanatory approach I was able to grasp the whole and not just the individual parts. Up to this point, I've always seen functional programming as just a series of techniques without seeing the relations between these techniques and without seeing the full power and possibilities, but now I think I'm beginning to see it more holistically.The author also provides a framework for understanding functional libraries that extend javascript’s functional core. It always seemed to be confusing to me how there were so many libraries and I was always wondering which to learn and why. This framework is good for understanding not just current libraries but future libraries as well.The book is written in a clear and concise way and also with a sort of conversational tone that makes it quite readable. In other words, it doesn't bore you with what could potentially be a dry topic. I don't think programming, functional or otherwise, is boring, but from my experience, it is all too easy to write a book on a specific language or technology that ends up being a dry listing of the features of the technology with examples that have little imagination and shed little light on how to incorporate these features into a picture of the whole. This book mostly avoids falling into this trap.Overall, this book helped me to read functional code with a proficiency approaching the way I already read object-oriented code. It just came more naturally afterwards. I highly recommend this book to those trying to grasp some of the trickier parts of functional programming or for those coming from a strong object-oriented background, but without much exposure to functional programming. JavaScript ties these two paradigms together, so if you want to use it to its full effect, then you need to understand both paradigms and how they can be combined. The book helped me greatly with this understanding.The book also covers some more advanced topics, such as category theory and some pitfalls of JavaScript, and these explanations were also enlightening in deepening my understanding of functional programming and JavaScript..I think "JavaScript: the Good Parts" (a well-known book about JavaScript) is in some ways a more advanced and thorough treatment of the language (and probably for this reason, it gets a bit tedious at times). I probably should have read this book first before reading that book, as it would have made it easier to grasp. But anyway, I may now be able to go back to that book and get more out of it this time, given that I have a firmerfoundation of understanding laid down through reading this book. Also, I may enjoy the snarky tone of that book a little bit more than I did before, now that I understand better why Douglas Crockford is being snarky in the first place.Bottom line: I really wasn't expecting anything in particular from this book, and I wasn't even looking forward to reading it. I thought it would be just more words about JavaScript that would continue to make me hate JavaScript, but it changed my mind one page at a time. Before this book, reading about JavaScript would make me feel alternately bored or frustrated, like those who understood JavaScript and functional programming were part of some secret special club that I could not be a member of, but the tone and content of this book have now made me feel excited about the potential of what I can accomplish with this language going forward.

It is the most gentle and most practical introduction to functional programming that I have come across.I previously looked at the O'reilly book with a similar title but I found that the dependence on an external library(underscore.js) was practical but not instructive in getting my mind around the functional programming paradigm.The best chapter in my opinion is chapter 2. It lays a lot of the groundwork for 'functional thinking' and has the most efficient discussion of recursion as a programming paradigm. Excellent Javascript Book to Bring You to the Next Level By John Preston Cua I am currently running a “Javascript phase” where I read books or watch a lot of videos about Javascript as I have discovered that Javascript is a powerful and very useful language to learn and it is my language of choice, at the moment. If you know Javascript, you can do Web Development and Mobile Development using the same language. Within Web Development and/or Mobile Development using Javascript, you can use 2 different styles of programming to achieve your goal of creating/developing your final product: 1.) Functional Programming (which is in the title of this book) and 2.) Object Oriented Programming (which is actually part of the content of the book).This book for me is AWESOME as it delivers more than what you would expect from a book with a title of “Functional Programming in Javascript” as the author not only discusses and teaches how to program in a Functional Programming style using Javascript, but it also teaches how to use Javascript to program in a Object-Oriented style. Therefore no one style is neglected. This book, however, is still faithful to its Title as it goes in-depth in terms of learning Functional Programming using the Javascript language. It goes in-depth in Functional Programming by first introducing the different ‘moving parts’, ‘building blocks’ and ‘tools’ used for Functional Programming and then how to put everything together akin to understanding a machine by first dissecting it and understanding what each part does and then reassembling it to produce the final product again in order to further one’s understanding of the machine and its different parts.The book also talks about the pitfalls of Javascript and some more Advanced Topics within Javascript. The approach is highly practical and yet it does not forget to acknowledge the academic basis of Functional Programming in Mathematics. Therefore a section of the book was dedicated to briefly talk about Category Theory. A section I appreciate even though I don’t really know Category Theory. But at least the awareness of Functional Programming being born out of Mathematics was mentioned for suitable readers to appreciate.Other things you will learn from this book are Design Patterns and some recommendation of Libraries to use to help in Functional Programming so that you will not have to program these yourself.In short, this is a very good book to learn the strengths, weaknesses and different applications of Javascript.

Good introduction to PhotoShop By Amazon Customer As a fairly experienced PhotoShop user, I downloaded this book mainly as a refresher.I was pleasantly surprised to find little gems I was not aware of, even all this time of use.Especially the possibilities with layer blending were a bit of an eye opener for me.I admit I skimmed through the more technical aspects of the book, but nevertheless, I'm glad I found this book. I also learned a lot from Al Judge's other books, like the Photo tutorials.And in case you're wondering: I don't know Mr. Judge, but I believe his books are written to be understood by novices and experienced users both.

I've been using Photoshop for several years and still feel like a beginner. I found things in the book that I didn't know.The book offers ideas and techniques that will help you create a better picture post shoot. Plus as a bonus the author backs up his teaching segments with YouTube videos and stills from Photoshop screens. My only complaint is that you cannot enlarge the photos to see what is being highlighted in the tutorial. Great book highly recommend.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. A great story to the series By jskully I read the story in one day and then was sad that I was going to have to wait for the next book. I love to get see one story continue while another full story takes place. Then there is just a little tease of foreshadow to wonder who will be next.I gave it a four instead of a five stars because I felt the underlying issue between Brooke and Tori needed something more than "things have been better". Maybe that will be coming in the future. I also felt the family dynamic with Trent's family kind of got dropped. In addition I just really don't like Tori. I'm all for strong, independent women but they need to be honest with themselves and know when to ask for help too. Her pride comes across to me as she has a chip on her shoulder. I'm hoping as her relationship continues her honesty can be developed.I think this is the first time I have not liked one of Jordan's characters and I have read all her books. I say that cautiously since this one happens to be one with a disability. However it had nothing to do with that but her attitude and outlook. On the other hand, I did like to find out more about her and her life. Tori shooting guns almost made me like her. The insight into her life as a little person was very informative.As always Jordan gives us an amazing, full story with a great plot, wonderful characterization within a strong Christian worldview. I'm looking forward to the next one in the series!

What makes this book awesome is the fact that it deals with real issues that people have. Victoria is such a wonderful person and everyone else sees how special she is except her. Trent has known his feelings for her for a while. So to see the challenges that Victoria has with giving love a Chance and putting everything in God's hand is difficult, but well worth reading to the end. Love this book, lo e this author and her writings about Christianity. Thank you again for another wonderfully written book.

By Joelle Kimberly Rae Jordan is one of my absolute all time favorites - Real events, "Real" characters and storylines that depict real trials and the grace that can handle them correctly. Don't get me wrong - this book is not filled with people living a happily ever after. What this book does contain is characters who are persevering with the strength of friends, family, and faith. Tori's story enlightened me to dwarfism and I am so glad that Kimberly faced this issue head on making me more aware of how important sensitivity and having an open mind can be. Tori is an exceptional person and it takes the steadfast desire that Trent has to show her she is worthy of so much more than she realizes. Another story that brought me to tears in places and I'm so sad to see this one end and have to wait on the next one.

There are no real contents in the book. It is completely lacking of strategy and tactic about how to build up and manage a technical team.This book is a self-published book. I know a guy who self-published a book, then gave books away for free, beg people to write five stars reviews on Amazon. Some people may get raise or promotion after five stars reviews written.Need to be careful of those self-marketing books. Don't waste your money!

By Marc Nussbaum, Audible Rush CEO "Technical Minds" is far superior to the typical overly generalized management book. It gives specific, usable advice and is applicable to new managers and to experienced managers alike. I highly recommend this book for senior people to hand out to their own management staff as a refresher to help create a professional engineering atmosphere and to accelerate team results. It is a quick read and its content can be used as a jumping-off point for group discussions in staff and team-building meetings.There are lots of management books that purport to talk about WHAT leadership is. This is the first book I've come across that tells you HOW to practice managerial leadership. Specifically, it explains the things you need to do (and not do) to create a reputation for inspirational leadership and a team environment that delivers results. The author uses a series of simple, real-life stories from his years inside several insanely successful Fortune 50 high technology companies and his years of personally training engineering managers and directors.There are 10 primary chapters with titles that seem obvious and trite at first. But start to read and you quickly realize that the advice inside is much more helpful that most anything you have read before on this subject. For example, chapter 3: "Communicate, Communicate and Communicate Some More" clearly spells out HOW you need to do this successfully to keep the team happy and effective: Tell everyone what the goal is (schedules and more). Tell each contributor why their piece is important to the success of the project, how the project will contribute to the success of the company and how it will contribute to a better world (this may take some thought). Be sure everyone knows each other's roles and responsibilities and where they can each go for help. Set up a project portal to hold all this information. Teach your managers how to lead a meeting, and how to not tick people off with their emails. Learn why setting priorities is the one key item many managers do poorly and how powerful this simple, vacuum-filling action can be to keep the team happy and set expectations with those waiting for results. This was a brief summary of what I learned just from Chapter 3.The book has lots of easily implemented advice that can be put to use the next day. I highly recommend it for technical managers wanting to check out what tools they may be leaving on the table and for new managers looking for a head start on creating their own personal brand of effective leadership.

About the Author Prof. Itskov studied Automobile Engineering at the Moscow State Automobile and Road Technical University, Russia. In 1990 he received his doctoral degree in mechanics, and in 2002 he obtained his habilitation degree in mechanics from the University of Bayreuth, Germany. Since 2004 he has been full professor for continuum mechanics at the RWTH  Aachen University, Germany. His research interests comprise tensor analysis, non-linear continuum mechanics, in particular the application to anisotropic materials, as well as the mechanics of elastomers and soft tissues in a broad sense.

By Rajeev Dubey It has been around 6 months now that I needed to strengthen my understanding of tensors to develop mathematical models for a project and I have been referring to a large number of books in the field. Many have been good, others just OK. But Itskov's "Tensor Algebra and Tensor Analysis for Engineers" has been difficult to leave since it arrived at my table. And this has been the only book to my knowledge that gives such exhaustive solutions (leaving Schaum's), an immense help for self learners!If you want to develop new formulations or if you want to develop algorithms based on existing formulations in mechanics, or for that matter any related field of physics, this book would be the right choice. By the time you finish chapter 1, you would know you have started making qualitative and quantitative sense of tensors. The book is direct and covers enough ground quickly helping and arriving at mature level of details fast. A copy of Synge and Schild's Tensor Calculus would be helpful too.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Concise Elegant Simple By physics joe I really like this book for it's straightforward and concise presentation. I have found other books on tensors to be too wordy and without any real focus. This book has no flab or fat to it and it moves pretty fast. You do need a decent understanding of Vector analysis before going in and it helps to know what a tensor is. Only problem I have is I am sdudying General Relativity and I wish the book addressed tensor calculus in that direction. Because of that I have only been interested in about the first 100 pages so my review is confined that part of the book. That said this is my favorite book on tensor analysis.
