Through a biophysical approach, Electromagnetic Fields in Biology and Medicine provides state-of-the-art knowledge on both the biological and therapeutic effects of Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs). The reader is guided through explanations of general problems related to the benefits and hazards of EMFs, step-by-step engineering processes, and basic results obtained from laboratory and clinical trials.
Basic biological mechanisms reviewed by several authors lead to an understanding of the effects of EMFs on microcirculation as well as on immune and anti-inflammatory responses. Based upon investigational mechanisms for achieving potential health benefits, various EMF medical applications used around the world are presented. These include the frequent use of EMFs in wound healing and cartilage/bone repair as well as use of EMFs in pain control and inhibition of cancer growth.
Final chapters cover the potential of using the novel biophysical methods of electroporation and nanoelectroporation in electrochemotherapy, gene therapy, and nonthermal ablation. Also covered is the treatment of tendon injuries in animals and humans. This book is an invaluable tool for scientists, clinicians, and medical and engineering students.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Comprehensive Research on Bioelectromagnetism By ENM Markov offers here a very comprehensive compilation of scientific research on bioelectromagnetic fields and their applications in medicine. It may be a controversial topic in the U.S. because here bioelectromagnetism science is reduced to diagnosis procedures, but Europe, Russia, China, and Japan are way ahead of the U.S. in this field and are using bioelectromagnetism (biofields) in the prevention and treatment of disease.
0 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The good, bad and ugly By x The book is a collection of 23 papers on the subject. They range from excellent to dismal. All are extremely difficult to read with more than normal if's and but's and weasel words that obscure the reality. None of the papers gives an overview of this controversial topic. One author writes "every safe and healthy member of society is a victory against civilization's monsterous threats of an advanced society so as the catastrophic spread the EMF sources". Another paper attempts to blame diabetes in South Sea islanders on "dirty electricity". Obviously she has never visited those places. In other words, after reading this book I'm not much wiser regarding the effects of humanity's bold cell phone experiment and the like. You would think that we would see certain groups getting obviously ill, like we saw in the grand "chemicals" experiment (e.g asbestos, mercury etc.). No doubt electromagnetic energy has numerous effects on our bodies, both good and bad. Maybe they cancel each other out, or not?
