About the Author Betsy Teutsch is an artist, blogger, community organizer, and environmentalist who has enjoyed a successful career as an Judaica artist and entrepreneur. As Communications Director of GreenMicrofinance, she wrote about affordable, sustainable paths out of rural poverty. She has also served as a board member for the dynamic Shining Hope for Communities and the Kibera School for Girls, and founded three chapters of Dining For Women, a national network of giving circles meeting monthly to support of women’s grassroots poverty alleviation initiatives. A Fargo, ND, native, she now lives with her husband in Philadelphia, PA.

It is filled with interesting information, valuable to everyone who cares about conditions in the developing world. The book offers ingenious yet inexpensive solutions to a host of problems confronted every day by people, especially women and girls, who live in poverty. Betsy Teutsch’s writing is clear and succinct, and the book’s organization is very reader-friendly. I especially like the book’s identifiers—positives in green and negatives in red—as well as the action-oriented notes at the bottom of each entry. There are colorful and vibrant photos on each page that bring us right into the worlds of those whose lives can be changed by these relatively simple solutions. And finally the book offers us ways that we can learn more about the projects that address such a myriad of issues and assist in their solution if we wish. On your coffee table it will be both a beautiful addition and a conversation- starter. Not only is it a gorgeous book, but it gave me a renewed sense of hope and purpose. With the media bombarding us daily with bad news from around the globe, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and hopeless to do anything about it, but now I can open up one page each day and feel empowered. This is the perfect coffee table book ( that's where I leave mine) and a wonderful gift to share with your girlfriends. I know I will be purchasing many more copies of this book. Love it!
