A rushed lunch and a bold move “introduces” Carlie to a stranger–one who hardly acknowledges her existence as he sits across from her, sharing his booth to save her a wait in a long line. What began as a random encounter becomes a weekly date in which Carlie chatters about her life to a silent lunchmate. Much about him interests her–his slightly Euro fashion sense, his commitment to the work he does as he eats his lunch week after week, and his evident attention to the running monologue she shares between bites of meals that he inevitably pays for. Dean gets to know the woman across from him–looks forward to their lunches each week, learns valuable lessons about himself--but when the cafe is threatened, and then when she doesn’t show up one day, he suspects their unusual “friendship” means more to him than he imagined.

I know I won't turn a page and be shocked by offensive language or (ahem) "intimate" details. Her books are labeled as Christian Fiction and they are certainly that. I personally do not find her books to be "preachy" but I do usually find some points to ponder (I say "usually" but I can't think of any that have not made me think at least a little bit).Corner Booth made me think about stepping out of my comfort zone. It is a delightful story with very interesting characters. Though I did not see myself in any of the primary characters, they were still relatable. The plot is, for the most part, light-hearted. There are a few intense moments that make you need to read the next chapter before taking a break though. This is a stand-alone novel. You do not need to be familiar with any characters, locations, or plots before reading this book. If you have considered reading any of Ms. Havig's books or you are looking for a new author to try out, this would be a good one to start with. Happy reading!

By teacher with an opinon Chautona Havig has a writing style that is very different from many authors. I find her books engaging and thought-provoking without being preachy. I also see a very different perspective of Christianity than I have ever experienced before. She has one previous book where the couple does not often speak to each other, at least verbally, it is called "Speak Now." This is NOT that book. I detested that book! This book is so very, very different. (But I could see where people would mix them up.)In "Corner Booth," Carlie approaches a stranger to share his lunch booth and begins a one-sided conversation with the oddly mute Dean. Dean, who is known for his verbosity, finds he learns so much more about her by saying nothing and just listening. It is a very unusual relationship, but an oddly beautiful one. This is not a romance book. There is an element of romance later in the book, but it's not your typical meet-fall-in-love-get-married book. Carlie and Dean both has issues they work through as their friendship develops and grows.I found this book refreshing and delightful. I really enjoyed getting to know the characters -and would really enjoy getting to know Dean's parents better (hint hint Chautona!!).I received a free preview copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

I would love to spend a day in the author's head to see where she gets all of the wonderful ideas for her books. This book opens your eyes to how much people's words and actions can affect another person; but, as long as we remember how God has made us and how He loves us, we are so much more. I would defiantly recommend, along with all of her other books!
