I really enjoyed INFINITE IN BETWEEN because I thought it was very relatable By Teen Reads Gregor, Whitney, Zoe, Jake and Mia all meet at freshman orientation. As part of their ice breaker activity, they decide to write letters to their future selves and promise to unearth them together during graduation. What they don’t realize is that each one of them has secrets and surprises, hidden from the world. Gregor is hopelessly in love with beautiful, serene Whitney. Whitney seems to have everything together and admires superstar Zoe. Zoe is constantly battling her superstar status due to her famous mother, and wondering about who she truly is. Jake knows he has a crush on his best friend Ted but he is too afraid to admit it to him. Mia silently watches them all but says nothing while she tries to grapple with her own demons. As the five teens go through their high school journey, can they each overcome their greatest obstacles?This amazing book by Printz Honor-winning author Carolyn Mackler --- who has also written books such as TANGLED, and THE EARTH, MY BUTT, AND OTHER BIG ROUND THINGS ---is truly a must-read. INFINITE IN BETWEEN fully captures the essence of high school, from the nervous butterflies before the first day of freshman year to the dreaded goodbyes during the last day of senior year, and all the ups and downs in between.I really enjoyed INFINITE IN BETWEEN because I thought it was very relatable, and think that everyone who reads it will be able to connect to at least one character. I really wasn't able to put this book down, and I felt that the multiple characters and multiple plots kept the reader from getting bored.I wouldn't recommend INFINITE IN BETWEEN to anyone the under age of 14 or 15 because it has quite a lot of sexual lingo and profane words, but I found it to be a very enjoyable reading experience. Not only was it entertaining, but it gave me a thoughtful perspective on life itself. I can't resist any contemporary books about the high school experience, so I was pretty determined to get my hands on Infinite in Between as soon as possible.Author Carolyn Mackler introduces us to Zoe, Jack, Mia, Gregor and Whitney, five young teens who meet at their freshman orientation. They each write letters to their future selves, and make the promise that they'll reunite at graduation to revisit the letters.But in the four years in between, the five teens experience love, heartbreak, and new relationships, while finding themselves. And their paths keep crossing, until the eve of their high school graduation...What readers should know first and foremost about Infinite in Between, is the fact that there aren't any strong character arcs or eurkea! moments for the characters. While they each begin their high school careers with baggage - Zoe, particularly - the book is more of a charting of their respective journeys, in four of the most formative years of their life.And that's the inherent beauty of the novel. Mackler innately understands that high school doesn't always have to end with big! dramatic! moments! or life-altering events. Intstead, it's the small things, whether it's the start or end of important friendships, or the discovery that moving to a new town isn't as bad as you thought it would be, that helps each of these characters (and by proxy, the reader,) grow as people, as they continue on their path to adulthood.While I enjoyed each of the storylines, Mackler particularly won me over with Mia's storyline. I think that any reader will understand trying to reinvent themselves as they struggle through young adulthood, and Mia's desire to escape, and also reinvent herself, are ones that I experienced myself as I went through high school. But I related strongly with each of the other characters as well, especially when it came to a study of their familial relationships.With extradordinary writing, and beautiful plotting - seriously, you can tell that Mackler has put a considerable amount of thought into how each of these characters moved through their four years - this is a book that's not only great for fans of young adult fiction, but also really fitting for young students. I think that many, many young high school students can read Mackler's book, and realize that their experiences are actually universal, and they are not alone.Final Verdict:Infinite in Between was a beautiful read, but not necessarily for the reasons that people might think. Mackler has crafted a thoughtful, introspective look at how people grow in the most formative years of their life, and how they're ultimately influenced by those around them - whether they realize it or not.But while Zoe, Jake, Mia, Gregor and Whitney grow in leaps and bounds, their experiences are also just a stepping stone to the rest of their life. Mackler reminds all of us that high school is ultimately creating only the foundation of who we are meant to be, and it's the start of a greater and longer journey toward becoming that person.I highly, highly recommend Infinite in Between for all readers. Mackler's book presents a complex look at how high school sets the foundation of five different character's lives, and how their ups and downs help them take on the rest of their lives.

Highly readable and dead on By John Rogers ClarkIV On the first day of high school, five freshmen, who have never met, agree to write letters to themselves that they will open right after graduation in four years, as their orientation exercise. They hide them behind the wall in a seldom traversed staircase. The book alternates among the five, a boy who is gay, a girl whose mom is an alcoholic movie star and who doesn't expect to be there very long, a biracial girl who obsesses about delayed physical development, an extremely smart girl who is terribly shy and a boy who is a cellist, but also loves to play drums and almost immediately falls for one of the girls. Each short chapter looks at high school and family events, ranging from broken relationships to death, to taking risks and discovering who they really are from the very personal perspective of one of the protagonists. Over the four years, including summers, each teen faces crises, love and unexpected changes. Taken individually, they might not seem like much, but collectively and after four years, they add up to one heck of a lot of emotion, growth and realization regarding friendship and what's really important. Carolyn Mackler has crafted an easily readable, but very rich book, that most high school students will find they can easily relate to. I did not expect to like Zoe, the daughter of the movie star, but she turned out to be my favorite.
