7 of 8 people found the following review helpful. It pretty much covers the tools and parrots the documentation By Billy P. Bray This book should be title Apache Cordova 4 Tool Usage. It pretty much covers the tools and parrots the documentation. Its like wanting to learn iOS native programming and getting book on that only to find it spend 95% of the time covering Xcode. The author constantly says 'I'm not going to cover that here but I refer you to the documentation. There is one chapter where he builds a very simple app with almost no actual code as he uses a plugin and just spits out logs. You will not learn anything about Cordova programming from this. You will not even learn how to structure your projects other than a tiny bit of coverage where he say you wont normally do this if you're a good developer. Just a total waste of money.

I spent days trying to figure out "how" to develop them. I'm now going to read the rest of this book. Easy to understand, complex topic.sThank you,Karl

From the Back Cover

Arthur Conan Doyle’s second Sherlock Holmes novel is both a detective story and an imperial romance. Ostensibly the story of Mary Morstan, a beautiful young woman enlisting the help of Holmes to find her vanished father and solve the mystery of her receipt of a perfect pearl on the same date each year, it gradually uncovers a tale of treachery and human greed. The action audaciously ranges from penal settlements on the Andaman Islands to the suburban comfort of South London, and from the opium-fuelled violence of Agra Fort during the Indian ‘Mutiny’ to the cocaine-induced contemplation of Holmes’ own Baker Street.

This Broadview Edition places Doyle’s tale in the cultural, political, and social contexts of late nineteenth-century colonialism and imperialism. The appendices provide a wealth of relevant extracts from hard-to-find sources, including official reports, memoirs, newspaper editorials, and anthropological studies.

Callahan I purchased this book in part on the strength of three 5-star reviews on this site. This is a very handsome hardcover volume at a surprisingly reasonable price. There are three classifications of stories in the book. First, stories primarily written by Adrian Conan Doyle, with some input from JD Carr. Second, two stories written almost entirely by Mr. Carr, possibly with some slight input from Doyle. Third, six stories written solely by Mr. Adrian Doyle.Since I have read a number of mysteries by Carr, and expected much, I was most disappointed to find his two stories the weakest in the book. In one instance, after reading the first page I was able to anticipate the entire plot. In the other case, I simply found the story flat, uninteresting, and narrowly derivative of similar stories in the original Holmes canon. To the contrary, some of the stories by Mr. Doyle cannot be praised enough. One that's typical, "The Adventure of Foulkes Rath," seems up to the work of Arthur Conan Doyle himself. All in all, Adrian Doyle admirably captures the style and brooding Gothic tone that so typifies many of the best stories in the original Holmes canon. Moreover, Adrian Doyle's stories have a kind of life and warmth that brings the Edwardian world alive for the reader.I would give the book five stars were it not for a few tales that seem off the pace, and decidedly inferior to the others. Alas-- and surprisingly-- these are from JD Carr's pen. Perhaps Carr tried too diligently to write an impeccably logical mystery, where nothing in the denoument was not well provided for in the early story. The effect, unfortunately, was to create a mechanical kind of plot, which made it all to easy for the reader to anticipate too accurately the entire unfolding of the story. So in this interesting and generally worthwhile book of tales, we might have the amateur outwriting the old master. All in all, a worthwhile purchase -- and handsome book with great bedtime reading at a very reasonable price.

Ryan Patrick Callahan's excellent review is right on the money, but I'm giving this little book four stars anyway just because, when it's good, it's _very_ good. Some of the stories contained herein -- based on Watson's occasional references to unrecorded (not "unsolved", as the current edition's subtitle incorrectly has it) cases -- surpass some of the elder Doyle's later works. Highly recommended, especially as an antidote to the surfeit of "pastiches" that can't seem to get any of the details right.Adrian Conan Doyle (with or without John Dickson Carr) tells a straight no-frills tale very much in the spirit of the Sherlockian canon; Holmes doesn't wind up getting married, Watson doesn't turn out to be the real Holmes, et cetera, et cetera. And there are no attempts to link Holmes to fabulous ripped-from-the-headlines figures like Dracula or Jack the Ripper -- these are perfectly ordinary cases of the kind in which Holmes himself was known to delight for their own sake owing to their touch of the _outre_ and the singular features they presented to the reasoner. Solid stuff despite the weaknesses of a few of the tales. If you want a couple of novel-length pastiches to go with it, I recommend Nicholas Meyer's first two: _The Seven Per Cent Solution_ and _The West End Horror_.

I don't like to spoil endings, but let me say this: if you think the book is boring at first, don't stop reading: there is a TON of action towards the end.

Create, modify, and run your own PaaS with modularized containers using Docker

About This Book

  • Build your own PaaS using the much-appreciated software Docker.
  • Isolate services in containers to have a fully modularized and portable system.
  • Step-by-step tutorials that take you through the process of creating your own PaaS.

Who This Book Is For

This book is intended for those who want to take full advantage of separating services into module containers and connect them to form a complete platform. It will give you all the insights and knowledge needed to run your own PaaS.

What You Will Learn

  • Create your own custom Docker images to fit your needs
  • Host your Docker repositories on GitHub and publicly publish them on Docker Registry Hub
  • Separate data from services using data volume containers
  • Install Docker on any platform including Amazon EC 2
  • Pass parameters to your containers when they start, to load different configurations
  • Export and back up data from shared data volume containers
  • Reverse proxy traffic to the right container using Nginx

In Detail

Docker is a great tool in many ways for developers and people in DevOps.

We begin by learning how easy it is to create and publish your own customized Docker images and making them available to everyone. We also see how practical it is to separate every service to its own container. When you have published separated service containers, the process of running all kinds of platforms in the same server is a walk in the park.

This book walks you through a use case project that will teach you how to customize and create your own Docker image, allowing you to run any platform you want. The project evolves throughout the book and emerges as a complete three containers Wordpress/MySQL platform when finished.

By the end of the book, you will know how to create such a container on a Wordpress/MySQL platform, among others.

Practical guide for dockerizing a LAMP stack By Stephan Hochhaus Containerization is all the hype in 2015 and so I decided to dive into the specifics by migrating a LAMP stack to Docker. This book is one of the few sources that covered most - but not all - of my questions in the process.Build your own PaaS with Docker is a rather short (~120 pages) introduction for developers and sysadmins new to containerized deployments. One of the most important aspects for me was the discussion of how to let containers communicate between each other - the way a webserver and a database container are used in the book. What does the book cover?Chapter 1 is a general introduction to the topic and it covers a trivial hello world example. I must admit I was only able to appreciate the things it taught me when I re-read it after having understood Docker better. I skipped the installation instructions as that isn't too complicated by itself.Chapter 2 is about the fundamental aspects of Docker: images, containers, and the CLI commands. In the third chapter a new image running Wordpress is created, stepping through the creation of a Dockerfile. Chapter 4 on data containers was a little hard for me to understand as it is. I am still not 100% sure on how to come up with an architecture where to run app containers and which data containers I should define and how a best-practice backup routine would look like.In chapter 5 containers are connected. This also (briefly) introduces Compose. Using a reverse proxy is covered in chapter 6 and discusses both nginx and haproxy. Finally, chapter 7 goes into the details of how to deploy applications. Unfortunately it does not cover performing updates (e.g. using the concept of immutable servers), which I needed to figure out myself. I do not consider chapter 8 to be on the same level as the others, it merely introduces the concept of 12-facter-apps and gives an overview of the (quickly changing) tool landscape for Docker.Overall I am satisfied with the book, it gave me much better insight and understanding of fundamental Docker techniques. I guess a single book (especially with just 120 pages) is capable of covering all areas. As such I give it four stars because it is very hands-on and useful to go into practice with a dockerized LAMP stack.HighlightsFor the the example was extremely real-world oriented and I was able to set up my own LAMP stack consisting of dedicated containers per component. The writing is straight-forward and includes the essentials needed to understand what and how to do it.LowlightsThere are very few conceptual graphics explaining Docker throughout the book. I would have liked to see more - such as how images and containers are related or how connected containers communicate. Only in chapter 6 some of those conceptual images are present, the rest are screenshots.

By Marvin Oey This is a great book for anyone just wanting to get started with containerization. Starts off with the basics of installing on three different platforms - Linux, Mac and Windows. In addition, it also provides great information on getting started with Amazon Web Services. To no fault of the author or publisher, I gave only four stars because it was a bit behind; however, you have to take into account the speed at which this technology is advancing. One thing I really liked is the book goes into reverse proxy and provides to different implementations - HAProxy and nginx.

Useful tutorials on Docker and related tools By David Nunez This book is short, and though very useful, doesn't have the best ramp-up into Docker of the books out there. It's great if you come into it already established in dev-ops and have an intermediate level skill set in server administration and network maintenance, but not the best starter for you if not. I think its fair to dock it a little on that shortcoming because neither the packt-pub official page, the book's preface, and first chapter outline the prerequisite skill set of the intended reader. Because it's marked as a "Learning" level of difficulty and because the "who this is for" is very brief and mentions only a generally interested reader (the preface appends on "developers" as the target audience, even though the book is full of mostly wordpress related docker examples), a developer without any server/networking administration background (or one that is 10+ years old), will find themselves referring to external sources to fill in the knowledge gaps needed to approach this "Learning" level book. That was the only thing keeping it five-star worthy, in my opinion, as the book was still excellent. The author outlines several tutorials for getting yourself set up with these technologies, and has a coherent tone that's easy to follow. Again, though basic familiarity with dev ops and networking/server administration is assumed, the walk-throughs are great for those of us new to Docker. He covers setups through not only Docker, but Amazon Web Services and publishing to GitHub. I feel this book is very useful because it helps you understand the whole Docker ecosystem and the additional tools that are its dependencies, without assuming prior knowledge. He tours you through basic usage of these tools and some of the most useful command-line switches, and even describes many ancillary software tools and add-ons, helping you to understand how rich the whole ecosystem is.Overall it was a great read and is full of useful references that I've referred back to several times, as it contains some of the most straightforward walk-throughs of setup and usage of docker-related tools.

This is the second ebook i read already from the “Python: programming in a day…” series and I really enjoyed, the android system has become in my opinion the most important system around the world for devices, and I thought it would be nice for a beginner like me to learn a bit about this system and its language, sadly this ebook did not taught how to actually program with android, however it did taught me about the “Eclipse IDE” and SDK being this two essential for programming with android, one of the best things I learned with this ebook was to configure and customize my launchers, making them more attractive for the user, I am really enjoying the Phyton series so far, and I recommend it to all new programmers out there.

Doubleback, by Lissa Ford

Review "These MC's were phenomenal together. Even though there's anger in their initial meeting the attraction between them was a spark you could feel from miles away." -- Lovebyte Reviews."I really enjoyed the banter between the two men, and the evolution of their relationship from the first page to the last, but it was the chemistry between the two MCs that was the icing on the cake for me. It was the very best kind of tension, where you're not sure if they're going to throw a punch or rip each other's clothes off." -- Bombshell Books"I also loved the unpredictability of the first half of the book especially when the author tried to pin the case against several suspects - I thought that was really good." - Paddylast, Inc."This book really grabbed me, and I was glad to have the day off so I could devote the time to finish it!  Jude melted my heart, and I was so eager to watch him get the love and acceptance that he deserved." -Watch & Word Society.

From the first page we had a good idea of the main plot, and an intriguing feel for the main character. I like books that get right to the story, and this was exactly that. You could tell that Jude was dealing with a bad situation made worse by his handling of his relationship with Rowan - and soon found out that Rowan made mistakes of his own. The story moves along quickly, the characters are real and interesting and easy to relate to. Having two more books to look forward to is always good. I like that she will be taking Jude and Rowan past the quick and hopeful HEA, to see how their lives go on from there. Excited for Double Down!

Romantic tension so delicious I want seconds By BombshellBooks I have to be honest: there's pretty much nothing I like more than a book about an emotionally wounded man in uniform (or former man in uniform, as the case may be), so this book didn't have to try very hard to win me over.Jude Anderson's had a rough year. When the story starts, Jude's trying to pick up the pieces of his life after a traumatic line-of-duty shooting that resulted in the death of three people, a wrongful death suit that smeared his reputation, and a leg wound that prematurely ended his career (not to mention the post-traumatic stress, the panic attacks, and a messy breakup with the man he loved). He's vulnerable and isolated and trying to claw his way back to level; is it any wonder I was putty in this man's hands from page 1?!But a week after Jude seeks comfort in a new man's arms, he finds the guy's lifeless body on his porch in a pool of blood.Poor Jude! Dude can't catch a break.Enter the smexy Rowan Muir - the ex whose hasty exit in the wake of the shooting shredded Jude's heart. He's also the ex who Jude hasn't quite gotten over yet. Ro's back to investigate the dead man's murder and naturally, sparks start to fly between the two alpha males pretty quickly.I really enjoyed the banter between the two men, and the evolution of their relationship from the first page to the last, but it was the chemistry between the two MCs that was the icing on the cake for me. It was the very best kind of tension, where you're not sure if they're going to throw a punch or rip each other's clothes off. (Ford, in case you're reading this, I always, always vote for ripping each other's clothes off!)The only thing I was missing in terms of Rowan and Jude's romantic relationship was the Big Declaration. I understand why the author didn't include it - and you will too when you read the novella - but I'm a giant sap and I totally wanted it.(An author's note at the end of the book says that this was the first in a series. Yay! I'm already looking forward to Double Down, but crossing my fingers that Ford sticks with the same characters - I'm not ready to let these two smexy men go quite yet. I'm also hoping that my patience will be rewarded with the "I Love Yous" that I was missing in this one.)And although I'm not usually a big fan of mysteries, I thought that this one was pretty well done. There were several plausible suspects and connections to Jude's former life as a deputy, and a handful of red herrings, but the killer's reveal at the end was still enough of a surprise to keep things interesting. Entirely realistic? Not really. But sometimes the entertainment value of something is worth throwing reality out the window. *shrug*Bottom line: A fun, sexy story with two incredibly likable main characters. For what it's worth, Doubleback gets my seal of approval.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Fast paced m/m romantic suspense By Anne I enjoyed Doubleback which starts off with a bang, a dead body on the main character's doorstep. The action continues at a pretty fast pace from there. The romance is basically a rekindling of the relationship between Jude and Rowan as Rowan tries to solve the murder and protect Jude. They seem to have primarily broken up due to the inability on both sides to communicate. There are only two intimate scenes in this book between Jude and Rowan. I say "only", but when I reflect on the fact that this is really only a long novella at 132 pages, two scenes would be enough. However, so much else is happening that the story seems longer. The mystery/suspense aspect isn't developed that much. Most of Rowan's investigative activities take place off page and the killer basically outs him/herself. It also seems to seems to come out of the blue. You can suspect who the killer may be by an event that pops up, but the motive and all isn't available to the reader. If this were a full length romantic suspense or plain romance I would have expected more development, but for a 132 page novella I was satisfied with the characters, the detail/world building and the pacing. Looking forward to reading the next installment and the (hopefully) deepening relationship of Jude and Rowan now that they have learned how to communicate better.I received a copy from the author in exchange for my honest review.

An Altered Situation (The Densford Daughters Book 1), by April Jensen

From the Inside Flap DAVID CAMBURN WANTED TO see her. The woman with the mahogany eyes, the sweetest laugh, and warmest heart. A woman that wasn't safe to contemplate. That he wasn't allowed to admire. Certainly not want. But he did want her.  As he made his way to the library, the clap of his boots on the paneled floor echoed down one of Egforne Park's vaulted halls. The candle he held cast dancing shadows across the oils hanging on the walls. David paused and held up his candle to the last portrait before he reached the library. He glimpsed the secret smile of a Densford wife, and the stern mouth of her husband--the current owner of the estate. He mouthed a silent prayer for the owner's safe return. For the daughter's sake. Upon his return from a visit to his family at midnight, Mathias Padgett, Egforne Park butler and fellow servant, informed him, "Mr. Densford is not returned, and he's not sent word." With a sort of fatherly concern, Padgett added, "Miss Densford seemed particularly uneasy this evening..."  The butler halted his speech and narrowed his eyes. David understood Padgett's attitude toward him. The butler did not approve of his relationship with Miss Phoebe Densford, the eldest Densford daughter. Who would? After all, he was tutor to the Densford sons. His friendly behavior toward their sister must be considered--was--the height of presumption. Offensive even. Fortunately or unfortunately--depending on the view one took of events--the long illness of Mrs. Densford, Miss Densford's mother, and subsequent mourning period for that honored lady had allowed him...liberty. Liberty to catch Miss Densford in the gardens and coax her apprehension over her mother away for one of her pretty smiles. Liberty to discuss her brothers' education with her as the management of the household fell into her care after her mother grew bed-ridden. After Miss Densford acquired authority over her brothers' education--for her father preferred to concern himself with other things--it was astonishing how frequently David was obliged to speak with her. He must have her approval for every change in curriculum, keep her informed of his students' progress...in minute detail, and answer her questions with thoughtful, if lengthy speeches. At first their conversation was limited to the topic of her brothers, but it soon became more general. In short time, these discussions demanded he accompany her for long walks on Egforne Park's grounds.  It was not until recently anyone took issue with his relationship with Miss Densford. The curious looks from the Densford brothers and Padgett's disapproving grunts were a recent development. But most remained unconcerned about his friendship with Miss Densford, not seeing the connection deepening between them every day. In particular and of importance to David, Mr. Densford made little note of it. He needed no infuriated father--employer--on his hands. Not with his future plans. Abandoning his employer's portrait, David stole into the library and placed his candle in a pewter candleholder beside the bookcases. His bare hand slid down one row of books, searching for a tome of a particular height and width with leather binding. There.  He pulled the heavy book of philosophy--an ever-reliable sleep aid--off the shelf and settled into an arm-chair. His rest had been disturbed--as it had many other nights--by mahogany eyes that taunted and tempted him. One moment they taunted by declaring, I will never be yours. The next, they tempted as he replied, Shall we see about that?    He concentrated on the page's tiny text, willing the memory of the dream from his mind. It was an imprudent dream. And he was not in a position to be imprudent. During his time at university, he was surrounded by young men acquiring their education because it was the thing done. Young men who had the security of inheritances through estates or connections. But David was different. His education was his inheritance. His father was a successful yeoman farmer and, after years of sweat-filled work, lived a life similar to a low-rung member of the gentry. But his father had not the funds to guarantee his children a similar state of existence. Instead, his elder brother received the land, and David received a degree. With that he must make his future. At seven and twenty, David was ready to do just that. To make a reality his--and his father's--dream. The dream his father spoke of proudly as they said their farewell not three days ago. David, you're the first son in our family to attend Oxford. The first man to escape being tied to this land. Tied to crops, harvests, and rains. And, now everything you've worked for can soon come to pass. I anticipate your success eagerly. He had replied he did as well. Since his first year at Oxford, he had understood the difference between himself and those rich sons of the gentry. While others might hold the luxury of squandering their time and resources, he did not. And so, from the time he acquired his first position after graduation, he had, with a single-minded focus, worked and saved. Saved for the day he'd have sufficient funds to open his own school. To not be a tutor. To be a schoolmaster. Only Miss Densford and her alluring eyes had ever made him double-minded. He seemed to have forgotten his goal. And he could not excuse his behavior. His wasting time and his heart on a woman who could never be his. Miss Densford was too high, and he was too low. Theirs was a union that could not be. Soon, he would have to give her up. He would cherish what time he could still spend in her company. In time, his eyes grew heavy, and he wondered if he should retire. Sometime later, David awoke with a start, sending the book on his lap flying, landing on the ground with a thud. In a groggy state, he stood, stretched, and picked up the book. Deciding he had enough of reading for the night, he returned the book to its place and slipped out of the library with his extinguished candle. He would have to feel his way back to his room. He walked a bit slowly down the darkened hall, relying on memory and touch to avoid running into stray tables or chairs. When he turned the corner, he heard rustling behind the closed parlor door. One of the maids seeing to the fire, perhaps? It must be four or so. His steps halted. Was that...pacing? He knocked on the door. The footsteps stopped, then approached. The doorknob turned, and the door opened. A woman with lovely mahogany eyes set off by high cheekbones peered up at him. "Mr. Camburn, you're back." The warmth in her voice warmed his heart. He could not suppress the tender feelings ignited at seeing her again.  What a refreshing sight she was. What a reward for his return journey. It took an alarming amount of control not to simply stand and stare at her. If he had ever seen a vision, she was it.  He bowed. "Miss Densford, I hope you are in health. What are you doing up at this early hour?" "Oh, I could not sleep. You know how I am. Once I awake at night, I cannot get back to sleep. It's not like we've never met in such a fashion before." She offered him a teasing smile. David chose not to say his restless wanderings had started after he learned of hers. It seemed dishonorable if he thought about it too much. Should he try and get her alone so often if he could have no serious intentions toward her? He should not do it. But...he would continue on. Soon it would not matter, and he'd become a pleasant memory for Miss Densford. She would be the woman he could never quite forget.

An Altered Situation by April Jensen By Nana loves to read The setting is Mallorton, Lincolnshire, England in 1805, where the wealthy families did not associate on a personal level with the common people. Phoebe Densford is the eldest daughter of a wealthy land owner. David Camburn tutors two of her brothers. Phoebe and David are attracted to each other, but he has not wealth or title and that presents some problems. The story is a sweet, clean romance, though repetitious. The characters are a bit immature in their relationships with others, but not unlikable.

I expected the end to be a big surprise or at least have some drama but it just trailed off. Sweet story, but never understood what the father's problem was and why he had changed so much since his wife's death. Just ok.

Having just turned 30, and after a disappointing foray into online dating, Valentine Daniels find herself single with only the company of a disdainful cat who won’t show her any love no matter how much she begs. But, with a sudden promotion, she finds herself in a small town in Virginia filled with shifters and an infuriatingly handsome sheriff who alternately annoys and arouses her. Finally, things are looking up! Or at least they would be, if it weren’t for all the problems with the hotel Valentine is trying to get built. Or the creepy guy she went on one disastrous date with and now won’t leave her alone. And just why is she suddenly mistaken for a shifter? Wolf shifter Jake Foreman quit working for the Supernatural Enforcers Agency and moved to Rose for a quiet life. He just didn’t bank on a fiery little human rolling into town and sending his perfectly ordered world upside down. With vandals trying to ruin the hotel, a potential stalker and strange compulsion to say the word mine, can Valentine bag herself a sheriff? Please note this is a novella and approximately 58,000 words in length. And caution is advised - it contains scenes of a sexual nature with m/f interaction intended for mature readers. (And there’s quite a bit of swearing too!)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. She tries an online dating site and has 5 horrible dates. One of whom begins to stalk her By Gwen Valentine Daniels just turned 30 and realized she is the single, lonely friend to all her married/hooked up friends. She tries an online dating site and has 5 horrible dates. One of whom begins to stalk her. Then her boss offers her a promotion and she has to relocate to help finish an ongoing project. She relocates to Alexandria, close to Rose and the Grey wolf pack. The project is a hotel but things are not as they seem. Relations with the Pack and the human citizens have been worsening thanks to the efforts of the Mayor insinuating that the Pack is trying to take over the town and giving them a hard time. Alec the Beta steps down as sheriff and Jake Foreman volunteers for the spot. Jake is a former officer of Alexandria PD, and a member of SEA, but after a tough case Jake quit. After urging from his aunt, Jake moved to Rose. Jake was previously married to another SEA agent, things did not work out. Jake hasn't had much luck with relationships. Jake and Val meet after Jake shows up to the construction site, where Val is now in charge. Jake questions an employee that had been harassing a she-wolf. Val interjects on behalf of the worker and Jake arrests her for verbally abusing him. There's more to that story. Jake's ex, Robyn contacts him about an ongoing situation in Ursa, (where Val is from) she wants Jake to consult on the case, he turns it down. Someone is sabotaging and destroying property at the constructions site, paperwork is nowhere to be found, her predecessor and boss are AWOL, and its all left in Val's lap. There is some shady business going on. There is a copycat serial murderer haunting Ursa, reminding Jake of that last case, someone trashes Val's apartment. Definite shady business.

There was a few places were I had to stop reading and reread the section to make sure I was getting the true meaning (I HATE having to stop when I'm really into a story). I buy this author's books just as soon as they come out but I REALLY, REALLY wish she would do a better job with the editing/spelling. :-(Other than that, this story is very good and I would recommend the book (or any of Ms. Price's books) to all my friends! Very good BBW paranormal romance! I do love my shifters!

Valentine's Wolf: (Book 11, Grey Wolf Pack Romance Novellas) By Amazon Customer Jake is a wolf shifter who recently had been promoted to Sheriff for the town of Rose. He relocated there from Alexandria his former job was an enforcer for the supernatural beings. He had enough of that life plus divorcing his wife who still.worked as a enforcer. Valentine's situation was she lived in the city of Ursa she also received a promotion. This promotion required her to temporarily stay in the town of Rose. Their meeting not the best. She bad mouthed the sheriff and got arrested. Things got much hotter after that. They both realized that there was a mutual attraction. She was in charge of the construction crew who was supposed to be building a hotel. Unfortunately they had several break in s and vandalism. The mayor who isn't a big fan of the shifters tried to put the blame of the damage and vandalism on them. Things just didn't add up that is everything went totally nuts. I won't spoil it for anyone but I recommend this series.

Vera, or the Nihilists: A Drama in a Prologue and Four Acts (Classic Reprint), by Oscar Wilde

About the Author Oscar Wilde was born on October 16, 1854, to the Irish nationalist and writer Speranza Wilde and the doctor William Wilde. After graduating from Oxford in 1878, Wilde moved to London, where he became notorious for his sharp wit and flamboyant style of dress. Though he was publishing plays and poems throughout the 1880s, it wasn t until the late 1880s and early 1890s that his work started to be received positively. In 1895, Oscar Wilde was tried for homosexuality and was convicted and sentenced to two years in prison. Tragically, this downfall came at the height of his career, as his plays, An Ideal Husband "and The Importance of Being Earnest, "were playing to full houses in London. He was greatly weakened by the privations of prison life, and moved to Paris after his sentence. Wilde died in a hotel room, either of syphilis or complications from ear surgery, in Paris, on November 30, 1900.

Wilde is no Gorki nor no Brecht By Dr Jacques COULARDEAU This rewriting of Romeo and Juliet is not convincing at all because the Nihilists are reduced to sectarian fanatics, the Czar to a manipulated tyrant, the courtiers to bloodthirsty powerhungry wolves, the Czarevitch to a romantic puppy suddenly grown adult. Vera, the most popular and feared Nihilist, will kill herself out of love to save the Czarevitch who is on a trail of reforms after the assassination of his father. This caricature has nothing to compare with Gorki?s The Mother, nor Brecht?s Mother Courage and Her Children. It is yet interesting to see how Oscar Wilde is far from understanding what simple suffering people can be in Russia at that time and what the psychology of the Nihilists was. He uses quite many clich?s and does not get into any depth. So the superimposing of a pale Romeo and Juliet ending does not give depth to something that is shallow.Dr Jacques COULARDEAU, University of Perpignan

By Nice Person Other reviews before me have done a better job on the literary and artistic value of Vera, so I wont offer any arts review.I ordered and read this play because it was Wildes first, and was interested to read and imagine it staged, and compared it mentally to his other well known works that I enjoyed, like the Importance of Being Ernst, etc. This, to me, was a far superior play - it was not a satire in the way we think of Wilde, it was a very intellectual and fascinating work, that I read 3 times at one sitting.A great play! I wish I could have seen it staged, all I can add to you, all I can offer, is the hope you will take this opportunity and read it. Its well worth it, and deserves an audience. If you are a Wilde lover, you will want to read it, and if you are not, perhaps this will truly impress you.

I had never known or thought about Wilde's first play before, until finding it here on Amazon, (what a great book store!), I'm half way through, and I'm impressed. Its actually good to read, as its not some social commentary, but a very literary work, there are many elements from other historical works here, which I have read up on to understand more, and that's one of the reasons I like it, it challenges me and makes me think.Wilde does that to people! If you are just looking for some witty remarks, try The Importance of Being Earnest but if you want a little more, add this to your order, as I did, and read something different.Truly recommended! The Importance of Being Earnest: A Trivial Comedy for Serious People

A Smoking Hot Deal By Avid Reader I seek out box sets containing many authors, because of the chance to inexpensively discover new writers This box set caught my attention because it contains the work of three authors I'm already familiar with: Christoph Fischer writes rich historical fiction. I have read three of his books including the one in this set, The Luck of the Weissensteiners. Janet Morris, although I haven't read the one included here, wrote a book a really enjoyed, called "I, the Sun" Her work "Tempus" has been on my to-read list ever since. This group of books appeals to me, because it appears to be diverse, like my reading tastes. Outview is another book I've already read, and it is a very unique book as is the rest of the Inner Movement trilogy - reincarnation, time travel, soul powers all wrapped up in a philosophical adventure. I can recommend those three authors easily and by association the others. I am curious as to what brought them together on this collection of books, but they do not say inside - a mystery, but my guess is that one common denominator is excellent writing. Since buying the box set, I've read Rise to Power, by Uvi Poznansky, which is like reading a painting. I'll definitely be continuing on in her David Chronicles series, a breathtaking first-peron account of King David's life. So much to read . . .

In the past I’ve sometimes found that with collections, it can be hit or miss. Not this one! Indeed, in addition to the authors’ extremely polished writing, what was so intriguing about this compilation were the various subject matters. From World War II to native Floridians; from paranormal wanderings to paranormal psychic powers; from suspense to mythical plots; from romance to heroism, AT ODDS WITH DESTINY pulled me into such highly descriptive worlds and appealing characters that I went from book to book without pausing, with each one staying with me for a long time. Highly recommended!
