About the Author A mother of two young boys, Naomi Rawlings spends her days picking up, cleaning, playing and, of course, writing. Her husband pastors a small church in Michigan's rugged Upper Peninsula, where her family shares its ten wooded acres with black bears, wolves, coyotes, deer and bald eagles. Naomi and her family live only three miles from Lake Superior, where the scenery is beautiful and they average 200 inches of snow per winter. She's currently enjoying writing The Eagle Harbor Series, which is set in this unique area of the United States.

Fishing, shipping, logging, and mining sustain the residents. Tressa, orphaned at fifteen, married a man she didn't know for protection. Eleven years later she finds herself widowed. Her ten year old son is the only good thing that came from her nightmare marriage. Living in her dead husband's hometown, his misdeeds have been placed squarely on her and her son's shoulders. And it's all she can do to keep from buckling under the weight. Mac is the light house keeper. He's a big and powerful man yet gentle and patient. When he was ten his father swindled the town and then abandoned him in the night. He was taken in and raised by a loving Christian family. He wasn't about to sit back and watch as this innocent mother and child were ostracized held accountable for something they had nothing to do with.I loved the protagonists and their friends. Loyal and solid in their convictions and friendship. I couldn't stand the general townspeople. From the rich and snobby to the local drunks they were petty, greedy, dark characters that lacked compassion and seemed to thrive on increasing the hardship of others. Even the sheriff and doctor lacked moral character. To suddenly lighten their attitude and demeanor at the end didn't work for me. What an awful place to raise a family.You'll find excellent editing, smooth and natural conversation and, a continually moving storyline. The scenery is vividly depicted with sights, sounds, and smells. The Christian thread is moderate and appropriate as a natural extension of the characters. The reader does not feel 'preached at'. The story is complete and works as a stand alone although it is part of a series.This is not a book that I can give an opinion on whether or not you should read it. It is written with obvious talent, research, and forethought. The love story is sweet. The back story is bitter. Hopefully I have given you some tools to decide if this one is for you.

Unbeknownst to her, her recently deceased husband had racked up a small fortune in debts, some disreputable. The creditors are all clamoring to recover their losses from Tressa. Shunned and bullied in a man's world of 1880, Tressa fights to keep her bakery and provide for her 10-year-old son. Her plight catches the attention of the handsome lighthouse keeper, Mac Oakton. But will the big man be able to rescue her from the pack of jackals circling her shop? And will Tressa ever be able to trust a man again?Naomi Rawlings fills Love’s Unfading Light with a variety of interesting characters, deeply nuanced while providing a glimpse of American life in the 1880s on the Great Lakes. The driving plot also illustrates the development of marine rescue teams on the Great Lakes during the period. This title provides powerful spiritual encouragement, as the heroine learns to discern true from false guilt, how to extend and accept unconditional love and forgiveness—an encouraging and entertaining read.

A lot of different people & information was written right out of the gate. Very hard for me to figure out what was going on at first! But I was determined to read the book as it really did sound like a good one. So glad I persevered! I figured once I got into the story that everything would fall into place & it did.The first time meeting Tressa, I felt sorry for her as she was being proposed to by a old trapper, and a very persistent one at that! She's desperately trying to keep her bakery afloat after her husband died & take care of her young son Colin. The more I learned about her the more I felt like I could befriend her! She's one tough cookie (no pun intended)! She's also trying to overcome the bad reputation she has due to her late husband's indiscretions. And to do it her way!Mac is a delightful character! Strong but tenderhearted, God fearing, loyal & steady, reliable & takes young Colin under his wing. His friend & him are buying a shipyard down on Lake Huron, so he's only staying long enough in Eagle Harbor until a replacement lighthouse worker comes.We find out soon enough that God has other plans for both Tressa & Mac! The resounding theme for me was this; the unconditional love & redemption God has for each of us! He took our sins upon himself just as Mac was willing to take Tressa's debts upon himself so that she could be redeemed in the eyes of the town! Why? Because He loves us that much...just as Mac finally realized he loved Tressa that much too!What a wonderful, heartwarming story this turned out to be! I can't wait for the second one to find out more about Mac's friend Elijah. Naomi did a great job in fleshing out her characters & plunking us right in the middle of Eagle Harbor MI.
