About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Beware Of This Copy By Jeff Michaels To start, this review does not concern the writings of Maeterlinck, but is a warning about this particular copy published by General Books. They are a company that takes older classics (which are no longer copyright protected) and scans them with a computer program. There is NO human proofreading or editing involved. As a result, the book is an absolute mess! One play blurs into another. There is no table of contents to establish where one play ends and another begins. As is often the case when manuscripts or books are scanned into a computer program, the original format is lost and things tend to get a bit jumbled. General Books makes no effort to clean things up or even have a human look over the text. The result is somewhat similar to an avant-garde word collage, with no format or organization, overflowing with typos and sections of text missing. How anything like this is even allowed to be sold on Amazon.com baffles me. Again, the company simply takes a classic book, computer scans it, prints it cheaply and sells it. Whatever comes out, comes out. They don't care. This is no way to treat classic literature! And I certainly don't recommend someone who is interested in exploring the plays of Maeterlink to take this route.
