I was a certified rider trainer (motorcycle instructor) for several years during the 2000s. During my stint as an instructor, I taught thousands of riders; new riders both young and old, male and female and also experienced riders who’d been away from riding for a number of years and wanted to return to it. This book is best suited for: • Riders who may have bypassed licensing laws (as many countries do not require licenses for 50cc scooters) • Riders who were self-taught or taught by a family member or friend • For long time motorcyclists who haven’t ridden among traffic after a long delay. • Riders who seem to be constantly surrounded by ‘stupid or dangerous drivers’ If you are an experienced motorcyclist, this book would work best as a reminder for skills and scenarios you’ve probably come across before but might have forgotten. This book will NOT lecture you on the dangers of motorcycling. This book is NOT a substitute for practical hands-on training by a qualified instructor, nor does it substitute for practice. I will address only the most basic motorcycle riding techniques in this book. This book WILL teach you how to keep yourself safe without making you paranoid. This book WILL give you hints and tips for being in control of your safety. This book WILL help you to recognize a potentially hazardous situation. Includes diagrams of common traffic situations.

As a motorcyclist since I was 14, (and 55 now), I've just gotten back on after a 5 year hiatus. And I must say, the author is right on, from the very first chapter where she reminds us "You are a Motorcyclist. You are in control". The book is well written and concise. All of her tips are great, and what I find most important are her guidelines regarding attitude, and how you feel, emotionally and physically when you get on a bike. Also being a hang glider for many years, I see some interesting parallels that are quite accurate, that are hardly ever mentioned in motorcycling, such as focus on where you want to go, not on what you're afraid of running into! You will indeed go where you are focusing, like that one tree in the middle of the field! Also, to pay attention, and be in tune with how you're feeling at the moment you get on that bike, and prepare to take off. Are you tired, are you angry, are you just not 'feeling it'? If so, take a break, have lunch, whatever you feel you need to be fully focused, present, and aware. I only wish the book was longer. Perhaps with more true to life stories, and events as examples. Also, I believe she could have expanded each chapter a bit, with more details, and some additional discussion. Such as, being as visible as possible in all riding situations. For example, when approaching an intersection, with a car in the opposite lane preparing to turn left in front of you, turning on your High Beams, to help them see you coming, and knowing you see them. All in all very good advice and I highly recommend it for all riders, young and older!

It's all about Attitude By Louise Keith I currently live in Brazil, and do not ride a motorcycle, but was interested in the POV of the cyclist as opposed to a car driver. Here, motorcyclists of all types freely "lane split" or "filter", as the author puts it, and we have had to become aware of the unspoken rules of the road such as leaving a gap on our left and really checking in all our mirrors for "motos", as they say in Portuguese. This is a great book for the beginner and for car drivers, as we all need to remember to look twice and save a life (an American awareness slogan). Attitude and experience seem to make all the difference in arriving alive or facing an accident. Smart and uncondescending review of road rules and obstacles for which we all need to be on the alert. Short, sweet and to the point! :)

While your book covers things I already knew as an experienced rider, this is a great way to introduce concepts to new or misinformed riders. I would recommend this as a textbook for a riding class.
