This was a delightful refresher for me, reminding me why after 3 plus year after moving to the dark side, ( .net, c# visual studio ) to this day I still miss the ease of development that Maven afforded me. I've read some of the other reviews of this book, and all I can say is, if you want to learn the deep dark secrets of Maven .... ANY book with the word "Introducing" or "Beginning" probably isn't the book you are looking for.

By booklover This clear and concise book helped me get started with Maven. It is densely packed with information but still readable and easy to put into practice. It covers the basics of Maven. There is more advanced information in the Apache Maven documentation.It covers declarative dependency management, including using repositories, transitive dependencies, and manual dependency installation. It covers the pom.xml and its entries (thought it is not a reference work), the Maven Life Cycle, Maven archetypes, generating Javadoc reports, Unit Test reports, and FindBugs Reports, and how to create a repository using Nexus and Maven.After reading the book, you will be well prepared to read more advanced documentation.It covers Maven 3.The one drawback for the book is that all examples and GUI snippets are from MS Windows. But the translation to UNIX is easy.

Do not buy this book, there is not enough detail By Michael This book does not go into enough detail, I don't think it's even a tenth of the way there. I actually have been using maven for three years now and I'm pretty good with it, but there were a few things that do not make sense to me, and the maven website does not explain them. I was hoping that this book would answer all of those questions that I have struggled with for years now, but it does not. In fact, there are a lot of things I know about maven that were not even mentioned in this book.What I really wanted to know when I bought this book, was how exactly maven inheritance works, with both plugins and dependencies. I also wanted to know the difference between a configuration section in the plugin directly, and one that's defined in the execution section of a plugin. I feel like the maven website has done an awful job of explaining those things to me, but unfortunately, this book did not even try.His coverage of creating a maven plugin is incredibly useless, on one page he kind of shows you what it would look like, without explaining what you are seeing, and then he moves on. It seriously does not tell you how to write a maven plugin.I can't believe they are charging $20 for this book. When it arrived, I was actually shocked to see how thin and small it is, it's 6"x9" and only a quarter inch thick. It's 100 pages long, but most of that is boiler plate code and terminal output that you just skip over. You will learn more from maven's free website than you will from this book.I wish I could give this book negative stars.
