And truth be told this was a very suspenseful read. Christopher (Kit’s) entire life has been rather suspenseful. Kit’s life was horrifically altered when he was eight years old. He is the surviving witness to his parent’s brutal murder. He was also kidnapped, harmed, and severely traumatized at that time. His child mind has coped with the events by blocking them all from memory. The tragedy never stopped though. As an adult he is still receiving threats, his home is not safe, and no matter how deep he retreats into his only sanctuary someone is always trying to get to him.Kit’s uncle who doesn’t take any of Kit’s fears seriously hires Micah to babysit his feeble nephew. Micah is former Marine, former US Marshall, and desperate to get back to work after a protection detail went beyond wrong. The moment Micah walks into the Auberon estate and meets his new charge he immediately realizes he didn’t get all of the facts on what is going on with Kit’s life. Micah isn’t even settled into his new role as sitter when the first threat to Kit presents itself. The job is infuriating to Micah because he knows he does not have all of the information he needs to best protect Kit, he doesn’t even know what he is protecting Kit from. This book turned out to be an amazing romantic suspense. I never knew what was going to happen next. Kit is eccentric enough that it’s difficult to see some of the obvious. Micah coming in as an outsider allows for readers to see Kit differently. Too many of the individuals that are close to Kit have painted him as the crazy spoiled brat who has locked himself away in the Auberon castle. Micah never saw much of that. He sees Kit as a beautiful young man who has been dealt a difficult hand in life. The feelings of attraction that spark allow for Micah to constantly be at Kit’s side when things go from bad to worse and the threats escalate to full on bodily attacks.book provided by the author for the purpose of an honest review

By Niki The usual stereotype MM romance but it was pretty ok until all the secrets, motives were revealed. Such a convoluted mess as I lost interest on who was related to who and who was not who he or she was. As for the 2 MCs I like Chris but Micah just irked me. Micah was ex.military and ex cop and supposedly hired for his skills and experience. But Micah came across incompetent, lame and pathetic. Some lousy bodyguard he ended up as when he had to be rescued by Chris! If the writer wanted to make Micah a vulnerable and sensitive character she failed miserably. Then the sex where one was a virgin and you get the idea. As for the writing much better editing was really needed. Words and phases which made no sense was annoying. The only reason I guess this convoluted mess is no. 1 is because it is under kindle unlimited.

Were we reading the same novel? For a good read, you have to believe not only in the characters, but also the situations they areput in. Now consider this: Micah, who is an ex-marine and ex-cop, has been hired (at 1 million dollars)to protect Chris/Kit. Chris does show signs of paranoia, but when they both see a man out in the woods, who Micah believes has a rifle, what does Micah do but go out to confront him, unarmed. Really smart. Two days later shots are fired at the house and the two MC's come close to being killed, with Micahbeing seriously injured. As head of security, does Micah go to the security detail (guards at the front gate)and get a gun...no, he remains weaponless. I think, no one can be that dumb. Then, a couple of days later, the butler is accosted inside the "secured" house, knocked out unconsciousto the point of near death, and tied to a bed. Does Micah then get a firearm...no. His solution, just sendthe house staff away, so as to leave him and Chris alone, unarmed! He has to be the most inept bodyguardever written into a story. - Could not Chris, who is a billionaire, not afford multiple bodyguards...who actuallycarry weapons, to protect his life! Just a thought, or should I say "just unbelievable".Other, two-star reviewers, have mentioned the really bad editing. And it was atrocious (see their reviews). And finally, the plot's convoluted ending was rushed and so unbelievable (who slept with who? who fathered who's child?)as to be almost considered ludicrous. Hey, Mercy, why not (out of nowhere) throw in another evil twin or two. This is the first book I have read by Mercy Celeste. With all of the positive 4-5 star reviewsI thought I was in for an excellent read. I was, unfortunately, very disappointed. I hate itwhen fans of an author give any and all of that author's work a free pass, just becausethey like that author's previous work. I will try one of her other books. Maybe this wasjust an exception, and she really does write as well as other reviewers suggest.
