5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Not well thought out and no editing at all. Many errors. By Frogsong Well, I feel silly. My daughter is attending college and going through the RN program right now. I fact she is finishing her first semester next week. So when I saw this I thought she could use it to help her study for the test. Turns out this is the test she had to take to even be accepted into the RN program so she had already taken the test.We paged through the book and after looking through it she said she was glad I didn't get this book before she took the test because it would have totally confused her. She said they make everything more complicated than it needed to be and the book is full of errors. It appears that there was no editing at all done on this book and it is very unprofessional. After paging through it, I am glad I didn't get it before she took the test as well. I can't recommend this book.

It certainly in no ways holds to the standard of excellence that I expect from Kaplan. I suspect the Prep Strategies was simply released prematurely. Perhaps the next edition will resolve the numerous concerns.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Not great, but not bad either By Monique At the beginning of the book there is a diagnostic, pre-test, to give you an idea of the types of questions on the actual test as well as an idea on the sections where you are weak or strong. While the pre-tests ranged from 10-16 questions, I wish Kaplan would have provided a time limit to give you an idea on how long those 10-16 questions should take. I learned, for example, that I'm strong in Reading (I missed 1), Math (I didn't miss any), and Grammar (I didn't miss any), but am weak in Science (I missed 3), which I already know. The Answer Key also provides information on why a particular answer was right or wrong, which helps you when studying. This quick, short diagnostic session shows me that I need to focus most, but not all, of my studying time on Science. In Reading, I missed the one question because I didn't read every answer completely, and that means I need to slow down and pay better attention. For Science, I missed all 3 because I haven't had a need to remember what I learned in my previous science classes, so I really need to brush up on the subject. There were several more that I wasn't sure of the answer, and I just happened to guess them correctly. There's a LOT of information to review when studying for your TEAS exam, and if you've been out of school for over 25 years like I have, it can be overwhelming. I took the TEAS exam. My score was higher than the national average and higher than my school's average but it wasn't super high. Since my score was higher than a classmate's and she studied for over a month and used the ATI course book, I'd say that this book prepares the user more than the ATI book does. Having said that I found some errors in the book, which can happen in any book you use. I found the subject work difficult. Maybe a younger person or a person who has been in college more recently than me would not find it so difficult. The diagnostic test did not predict my scores on the actual exam except that I aced the grammar section and did horribly on the science, which is where I spent the most time studying. I will agree that the subjects in the book mimicked the subjects on the exam.I only had 2 weeks to study, so I wasn't able to dig deeply into the book. But I was able to skim the subjects where I had more knowledge and focus on the areas where I was weak.Overall, I think it provided a good (not great) outline on the subjects covered on the test although I don't believe the diagnostics test was good predictive.
