Life of a church girl is the story of what it was like to be raised in the church but affected by the world. The notion of the world is that people in church are somehow immune to the bad things of this world. Marge is born in the 70's in Baltimore, Maryland and from her earliest memory she was in church. From a very early age she suffered several tragedies and losses that would scar her in her mind and body. At the age of 10 Marge was assaulted in her own home by a family member and this type of assault would continue for years and scar her even further. These events would push her into a lifestyle and down a road that would be filled with more heartache and depression. The more she searched for love the more she found loss. The more she tried to accomplish the more inadequate she felt. A mother at 16 and married at 17, Marge had no clue as to how to be a wife and mother. All she knew was men and sex went hand in hand and happiness was a fairy tale. Throughout it all if she knew nothing else she knew God and scripture. She didn't have a relationship with the Lord but she knew how to get in touch with Him. What do you do when who you are destined to be is trapped inside if who you are?

It helped me deal with ghosts of my past, and realize that sex and love does not equate. By AC From the first pages my heart was breaking for the little girl who went without the love she needed to be a confident young woman. But God uses our weakness and our personal tragedies to weave the tapestry of His making, in His will. Why He allows some things to happen, I will never understand. But regardless of whether we follow Him or struggle and take detours in this life, one thing is definitively constant, and that is His Grace. There is no mess that he can't turn around. No circumstance or situation that he can't use to grow us, to reflect His true character. The author paints a beautiful portrait of the one perfect love that is free and costs us nothing in return. If only we would look up instead of filling our lives with meaningless exchanges and destructive behavior. Ms. Davis exposes her flaws to the reader and in the process heavily vests the emotions of her audience, making her all the more endearing and her violators the equivalent of bottom-dwelling pariah. I found myself wanting to strangle half the men in this book. And Russell had better be in prison for life! The book is essential to any parent with young children and a naive world view. There are wolves out there. Often much closer than you think.
