By canaanx With the word "Supreme" in the title, I expected this guide to be more comprehensive as well as to offer tips and ideas that I had not thought of yet. Having already used Evernote casually for a number of years, I found that there wasn't much new information in this guide that I wasn't already aware of. Areas that would have been helpful to include would be: 1) Backing up your data locally on something like an external hard drive, etc. 2) Uses for Evernote in the area of education, and 3) more ideas of how to use Evernote collaboratively.If you're just starting with Evernote, this is a good guide to get you up and running. If you're already familiar with the basics you probably won't benefit as much.

I do understand why it was offered for free which influenced my rating it so high. It is a grammarian's nightmare, which appears to have been dashed off with little editing or proofreading. The flow of the content slowed down as the puzzle of the intended message was sorted out.

About the Author

Joseph Mayo practices architecture in the Pacific Northwest where he concentrates on materiality, technology and form for a regionally appropriate building culture. He has worked on a variety of building types, ranging from schools, student housing, university buildings and hospitals. Working with a City of Seattle Department of Planning and Development (DPD) Advisory Committee, Joseph led an investigation to use wood in applications that go beyond current building codes. He has also been a jury member for wood design awards, served as Regional Associate Director for the American Institute of Architects (AIA), Young Architect Forum (YAF) Chair at AIA Seattle, and has assisted in teaching courses and served on architecture critiques at universities around the Pacific Northwest.

By Molly Lebowitz Mayo's attempt to weave case studies of wood building systems from every corner of the world is astoundingly successful in convincing the architectural world of the approach's modernity and validity. He considers not just the environmental implications of the methods, but also the building code challenges, fire safety, structural considerations, and other critical topics in his analysis.This book should be required-reading in any course on modern structural concepts or construction materials for architects and engineers.

Revived interest in wood construction By Jarret By boring deep into modern wood construction techniques, Joseph's Solid Wood piqued my interest as an opportunity to revisit architecture studies that I had enjoyed years ago during college classes. Joseph promptly covers critical issues of fire safety and moisture control as well as relevant terminology before moving on to several chapters of massive wood construction projects around the globe. Case studies in Norwegian Wood, budding United Kingdom housing developments, and Australia's timber down under all plant insight in the reader using ample construction photos and diagrams of project-specific techniques.I worried this book would be overly technical when I placed a pre-order months ago; however, after receiving the book, I'm delighted to find the content appropriate for both a high level architecture class or a casual coffee table construction photo tome to thumb through.

And, these are to be understood in totality, as these are interrelated. Certain things are illogical also such as the wear value of the tool tip number on a lathe. Unfortunately, we cannot question Fanuc. We have to understand their language if we want to survive in the CNC world. This book is written keeping in view the requirements and expectations of beginners who wish to learn on their own with no helping hand available to them. No background is assumed. One who has at least seen the operator’s panel and the manual data input panel, and knows elementary things like the directions of axes on a CNC machine, would be able to follow the book. Starting from the very basic, it has everything a seasoned CNC operator is supposed to know. The following excerpts from the book would give some idea of the way of presentation: Entering Offset Values into Offset Tables: The procedure on a lathe as well as on a milling machine is similar. The basic procedure involves bringing the tool to the origin (or to a known coordinate position) of the desired coordinate system, and then use the measure feature of the control (through the MEASUR soft key) to enter the offset values automatically. Let us first take the example of determining work offsets on a lathe: • Measure the diameter of the workpiece for which the work offset is to be determined, and place it in the chuck at the desired axial position. • Select the MDI mode, and execute the desired work coordinate system code (G54 through G59) for which work offset is to be entered (so as to define or redefine it). • Select the tool which is desired to be made the master tool, say, tool number 1, by pressing the tool change button on the machine operator’s panel required number of times. Alternatively, execute the appropriate tool change code (T0100 for tool number 1) in the MDI mode. • Move this tool in the negative X direction to let it touch the workpiece at a known diameter position (say, X = 10) manually, using continuous feed (JOG mode), incremental feed (INC mode) or handle feed (HANDLE mode), as appropriate / convenient. For accuracy in positioning, it is recommended to use successively smaller increments (say, 0.1 mm, then 0.01 mm, followed by 0.001 mm), as the tool approaches the desired position. Continuous feed should be used only for quickly bringing the tool near this position, initially. To judge whether the tool has actually touched the surface, turn the spindle manually and look for a tool mark on the surface. Another method involves inserting and continuously shaking a thin piece of paper between the tool and the workpiece while the tool is made to approach the workpiece. The moment the paper gets stuck, the tool can be considered to have touched the surface. While inputting the values in the offset tables, allowance for the thickness of the paper can be taken, if felt necessary. • Press OFS/SET key on the MDI panel. OFFSET, SETING, WORK and OPRT soft keys will appear. Pressing OFFSET soft key will display WEAR, GEOM and OPRT soft keys. • For setting work offsets, press the WORK soft key. If it is already highlighted, i.e., selected by default, there is no need to press it again. The currently active workpiece coordinate system is displayed at the top left corner of the work offset screen. . .

An easy to read book on a fascinating subject By John Hayes I have been interested in 3D printing for some time and it really is revolutionary.Elliot does a very good job of explaining it. You may be surprised at how many applications there are.It is true that we haven't seen the true potential of 3D priniting, but there are lots of examples in this book

Note: Free download provided for evaluation.I very seldom review any of the many books which are offered to me for review - I was interested and excited when I read the email offering this to me for review since I've been following the technology for some time. Perhaps I'm not the target audience since I've actually downloaded a couple of things from Thingiverse and actually printed them on a Makerbot.Still, I can't imagine that this benefits those unfamiliar with the technology since the book reads like a laundry list of companies and industries that are using them, but fails to adequately explain how this technology is better or different from stereo lithography, laser sintering, or any of the other rapid prototyping tools that have been out there for decades.

This book tells the story of a Dutch boy who grew up during the 1950s in post-war Borneo, where he had frequent encounters with an airplane, the Douglas DC-3, aka the C-47 Skytrain or Dakota of World War II fame. For a young boy living in a remote jungle community, the aircraft reached the proportions of a romantic icon, as the essential lifeline to a bigger world for him, the beginning of a special bond. In 1957 his family left the island, and all its residual wreckage of World War II, and he attended college in The Hague. After graduation he started a career as a corporate executive, and met the aircraft again during business trips to the Americas. His childhood passion for the Dakota flared up anew, and the fascination pulled like a magnet. As if predestined, or maybe just looking for an alibi to come closer, he began a business to salvage and convert Dakota parts, which meant first of all finding them.As the demand for these war relic parts and cockpits soared, he began to travel the world to track down surplus, crashed or derelict Dakotas. He ventured deeper and deeper into remote mountains, jungles, savannas and the seas where the planes are found, usually as ghostly wrecks but sometimes still in full commercial operation. In hunting the mythical Dakota he often encountered intimidating or dicey situations in countries plagued by wars or revolts, others by arms and narcotics trafficking, warlords and con men.This book describes his multiple expeditions in search of the remains of the Dakota legend. It takes the reader to some of the remotest spots in the world, but once there one is often greeted by the comfort of what was once the West’s apex in transportation―however now haunted by the courageous airmen of the past.REVIEWS Hans Wiesman takes us on an intercontinental crusade, country to country, island to island; and it’s fair to say his story could count as one of those likeable books you can pick up and put down as and when. By its very nature the story is episodic but do not take this as a criticism. The writing is assured and well paced and you can feel the enthusiasm of the author at the turn of every page. The photography is well captioned and, of course, the pix are all fascinating. Just about everyone has seen those internet snaps of Dakotas used by scuba divers and all this stuff and more is included in the author’s story. His passion is beyond doubt and his knowledge and experience in the field of seeking out aircraft could well be unrivalled. His contacts book must be huge and I presume he has to get people in to help write all his Christmas cards for him. The book finds a fitting conclusion with our man Hans helping to save the DC-3 now on display at the Merville Battery in Normandy. He gets the chance to mix Dakotas with his passion for Harleys and you cannot help but come away with the idea that this is pretty cool. In fact, if I needed to find the briefest of reviews for this book, then “pretty cool” would do it. I suspect the author would be satisfied with that if he ever finds time to slow down. About the Author Dutchman Hans Wiesman grew up in post colonial Borneo where his father worked as an engineer for Shell Oil. Growing up in the jungle, Hans was bitten by the Dakota bug at a young age, as the leftover cargo planes from WWII were the only connection to an outside world he had ever seen. 35 years later, while working as an advertising executive, Hans ran into a Dakota during a photo shoot in South America and was immediately mesmerized again. He decided to turn his passion into a full time job and has since been scouring the most remote regions of the planet on a quest to find the last forgotten Dakotas in the world

Great adventure, highly recommended By hansdane This is a most attractive book, - nicely printed and bound and with gold-embossed lettering along the spine. More importantly, it is an exciting book. The author shares his adventurous life - and his love for the DC-3 - with us in a charming, informative and humoristic manner. A free and easy childhood on the threshold of the Borneo jungle was followed by university education in his native Netherlands and a career in the corporate world (which included several spectacular aviation related events). Eventually, he set up his own business and started tracking down, buying and converting the wingtips of defunct DC-3 aircraft into designer desks! His quest took him all over the planet and he writes hilariously about his failures and successes in developed and developing countries, trying to do business with people of all shades of honesty. The book is illustrated with a wealth of interesting colour photos. A must for anyone interested in historic aircraft, especially for fans of the 80-year old DC-3 in all its shapes and varieties.

Mr Weisman has many interesting stories to tell about the interesting countries he has visited searching for DC3 parts. Some may see irony in the fact he only wants the parts to build office desks but there is much more to his story and his affection for the plane shines through.Not a total success in editing but a lively piece of story telling
