Excellent Easter story By In the Bookcase A simple tale of the Resurrection and the first Easter.It's a "what if?" tale, that allows the reader to consider naming a couple of men who took part in Jesus' life as Joseph of Arimathea.I do wish the reader would have been told that Joseph of Arimathea was the man who donated his own tomb for Jesus' burial, but I guess we all know this fact anyways.If you're looking for something your kids and family can enjoy reading together this Easter, Sarah Holman's Joseph of Arimathea is an excellent choice.

Good story, but not her best work By Ashley Elizabeth Blair Tetzlaff The tale was very interesting... weaving together different portions of Scripture about the events surrounding Jesus' death, burial and resurrection, and correlating them with the life of Joseph of A. It was a fun, short read.All that to say, it wasn't the author's best work. As good as it was, it felt like Joseph's emotions were over dramatized and all he did was sit around feeling the void inside. That is ok. But if you want a REALLY good look into Sarah Holman's work, try reading "A Different Kind of Courage".

I really liked the little bit of humor when Joseph was trying to figure out which person was Jesus. Their were just a few typos but other than that this book was wonderful! I hope to read more of your books, Sarah :)

Paris Romance By Lee Armstrong Austin Strong's "Seventh Heaven" was written in 1922 and is one of eleven of his plays to appear on Broadway in the early 20th century. As the step-grandson of Robert Louis Stevenson, the literary elite surrounded Strong as he grew up. The 1927 film version of this show won a Best Actress Oscar for Janet Gaynor.The play is a roller coaster ride and reads well 84 years after it was written. Mostly, it is a love story between Diane and Chico. They fall in love in a small backwater cul-de-sac in Paris. Her whip-toting sister controls her while Chico sees himself as a man among men even while holding the lowly position of sewer worker. The first two acts take place in 1914 before World War I broke out and concludes in Act Three in 1918 with the signing of the Armistice. The smaller characters are fresh and distinct from the smooth Brissac, to the caring Boul, to the domineering Uncle Georges and the compliant Aunt Valentine.Thematically, the show has two strong themes that certainly play well here in South. The first is the effect of war on the families left behind. It is neither pro-war nor anti-war in viewpoint. In 1914, military families didn't have the communications we now have. They could go for years not really knowing if their loved ones would ever return.Stronger than that theme is the role of faith. Some of the characters believe in God; some do not. The Catholic priest Pere Chevillion is hilarious as he totes fake tin watches hoping that pickpockets will steal them so he can go "save" them. The show examines how faith helps families through difficult wartime separation. The lead character, Chico, does not believe in God, goes off to war, returns in the last act with severe injuries, only to have his inner light be turned on to show that he does have faith.While this is certainly a Broadway show that ran for almost a year in the 1922-1923 season, it is more than a religious homily. Its great universal themes reach across the decades to us today. The acting style for the leads requires great agility from the actors to switch from one intention to another with speed and clarity. The Magnolia Arts Center in Greenville, North Carolina is working on an August 2006 revival of Strong's drama. It is well worth being brought back!

9 of 10 people found the following review helpful. A high-stakes game of chess! By Kylie Edwards I can't resist any chance I can get to peek into the mind of a genius, and Shaw was a true genius. This story was delightful and brilliant.This was great. Instead of a love affair, we get a high-stakes game of chess with Cleopatra making calculated moves to secure the throne of Egypt, but her opponent, Caesar, excels at the game as well. Shrewd takes on Wise in this excellent battle of wits, giving us a refreshingly original story that portrays Cleopatra as a crafty politician seeking power rather than a romantic siren interested in an affair of the heart.This story was smart and funny. I loved it and wanted more when it was over. I'll have to buy another one of his books. I just love his style.

By Marie Martin This is a wonderful, and much more likely, interpretation of Cleopatra's romantic involvement with Caesar. Most writers are tempted to turn it into a great love affair, but Shaw reveals a clever and ambitious Cleopatra whose reasons for sinking her claws into Caesar are entirely political. As much as I'm a sucker for a good romance, I found this tale of sly and loveless manipulation to be much more intriguing.This story takes place when Caesar has occupied Egypt. Cleopatra wants to steal the throne out from under her brother and realizes that Caesar has the power to give it to her. The lengths she goes to in order to gain Caesar's favor or even stand in his presence are zany. She even goes so far as to roll herself up in a carpet that's to be delivered to him.Shaw is my favorite of the Victorian playwrights. His works were revolutionary in many ways. Use of humor was rare and exceptional for playwrights during that era, but Shaw was not afraid to make audiences laugh. He also tackled serious moral, political, and social issues in his plays at a time when sappy dramas were all the rage. He was truly bold and innovative and greatly contributed to dramatic art. He had an amazing gift, the ability to make people think while simultaneously making them laugh.Reading Shaw's works are a genuine treat. All of his plays are fabulous. His characters are memorable, and his humor is brilliant.This is a wonderful book, charming, significant, and insightful. I can't recommend it enough.

Published by MobileReference (mobi).This is a fine edition of the delightful Shaw play. Shaw's Caesar is a man of self-doubt and good humor, a vivid counterpoint to the haughty, aristocratic Caesar of Shakespeare.

East to read and quick to implement By bill scott This book covers system-based safeguards and recommends third-party apps that secure e-mails, texts, internet activity, and credit card transactions on iPhones and iPads. It exposes vulnerabilities that the casual user may not recognize, and provides easy (and fun)-to-read step-wise instructions with screenshots that take the guesswork out of implementing the fixes. The installation of all the free apps I tried (end-to-end secure e-mail, S/MIME certificate, VPN) went well except obtaining an e-mail certificate; I was unable to download the cert in the required format using Firefox on a Mac as illustrated, but everything went as anticipated when using Safari. The free version of the recommended VPN, spotflux, installed easily, but has interrupted previous internet activity on my Windows virtual machine (Fusion) operating in OS X with a message stating that I am using an old version of spotflux. After updating the message reappears. I have not been able to successfully remove spotflux from my virtual machine. The interruptions are now more infrequent, but I yet have not been able to remove the program. There have been no early issues using spotflux on my iPhone–users get the premium version for the first 30 days.

Excellent for iPhone users By Canary Practical Paranoia iOS is a great example of a book written for people like me who are trying to protect our electronic data. Like the other Marc Mintz book I bought to protect my laptop, this iOS book for my mobile phone is extremely easy to follow because of the many screenshots and the clear language.The book seemed pricey until I found out what it would cost to have a technician -- a stranger who thereby would access to my data -- set up my protection. I have heard about computer techs who bragged about the photos and music they stole off machines brought to them by their trusting customers. So I prefer to do this device protection work myself!
