I have read many books about PHP and they all have the same repeated information. Concepts that in the end do not teach you the most important part of the programming: the practical part, the most common errors and the "tricks" that every experienced programmer knows and that can be very useful for beginners.This guide is, in my opinion, the most comprehensive I've read so far. Not only because it explains each component of programming. But it teaches you from the most basic level up to an advanced understanding.Recommended if you know nothing about PHP and recommend it for those who want to deepen their knowledge.

Author provides good examples of everything he writes about so you aren't left wondering. It isn't a book just for beginners, it has some intermediate stuff, but I would recommend it mostly to newbies. Computer literacy is incredibly important in today's world and programming is certainly a part of that. PHP is a good place to start and this book provides a nice introduction to what it can be done with it. Self-learning and motivation can be tough, but with a resource like this everybody should be able to at least start – who knows, maybe thanks to this book you'll come up with the next big thing :)

By Nascif Abousalh-Neto All software projects have one thing in common, regardless of programming language, development methodology or domain: they are all written by people, with quirks of their own. These people are usually organized in teams, adding social interaction dynamics to the mix. But since most of the research available on code quality has been done by programmers, these human factors have rarely been considered - until now.Adam Tornhill draws from his dual background in psychology and software development to propose innovative techniques that consider how human and social aspects affect code quality and can be monitored with new metrics. The results are both intuitive and surprising - and extremely valuable in understanding the overall quality of a software system.Adam's ideas are demonstrated by a software versioned control system logs analysis tool - Code Maat - that he graciously made available as open source. Using Code Maat we were able to quickly identify hotspots in our code that demanded close inspection. We found issues that traditional code metrics alone like complexity and code coverage would not have been able to identify, like which modules have been modified by far too many developers, and which ones were decoupled in the design but actually coupled when it came to code changes.If you care about code quality, don't miss this book. Highly recommended!

Instead of it merely being the place where you happen to keep your source code, he teaches you how to transform it into a wealth of information about your codebase.From the simple things like getting a view of the hotspots in your codebase, to more advanced technique that can show you the knowledge distribution between your team, you will learn a ton of useful tips in this book.While Adam does supply some tools to use along with the techniques in the book, the emphasis has been put on giving you the ability to make use of the information on your own and not enforcing a reliability on any particular 3rd party tool.I highly recommend this book to any developer who wants to learn more about their codebase. Personally I've used the techniques to both help me get a quick introduction to new codebases, and also to help highlight information that is useful not only to myself, but also to the rest of the development team and management.

By Robert Nilsson Adam presents a whole new perspective on analysing existing code using the information stored in the version control system. With these techniques, you will be much better equipped to asses where to put your effort next time you get your hands dirty in legacy code. The techniques may be applied to newly developed code as well, to make sure it doesn't evolve into a maintenance nightmare.Hands on examples makes it easy to follow the techniques presented and use it on your own code projects right away.

A Novel of the Old West

During the last few days of the Civil War, a company of Confederate raiders rode into the small Kansas town of Elbow. There they raped, pillaged and murdered among the local populace, thus triggering a chain of events and a chase that extended for more than a thousand miles across the grasslands and mountains of Kansas and the deserts of New Mexico.

Along the way, Confederate Lieutenant Jesse Quintana, a ruthless, cold-blooded killer without a conscience, and his men massacred a band of Comanche women and children, fought two battles with Comanche War Chief, White Eagle, and murdered and plundered his way southwest along the Santa Fe Trail.

Quintana had a nine-day start over his pursuers, Captain Ignatius O'Sullivan and Sergeant Major Boone Coffin, along with an Osage Indian scout and a small company of Federal cavalry. The climactic end to the chase came among the mountains on the Mexican border six weeks after it began.

You will remember O'Sullivan and Coffin from the author's previous novel, The Mule Soldiers. Their adventures continue.

By C M Anderson This is Blair Howard's third book in the "A Novel of the American Civil War" series. No two books are ever alike. This book is no exception. I used to read Louis L'amour's westerns. Never in those has there been a chase like this one. It keeps you on your toes. There is always something around the next corner to keep you glued to the pages.The book starts with a gang of 23 rouge confederate soldiers, including their demonic "commanding officer" , Lieutenant Jesse Quintana. This motley gang ravages a small frontier town, Echo, on the Kansas prairie. From there, they are on the run for Mexico.Word gets out to O'Sullivan ("The Mule Soldiers") that he was to report to Colonel Richard at Fort Scott, Kansas. He was given orders "to track down and arrest, or kill, this band of renegades". Along with Sergeant Major Coffin, nearly right out of military school Lieutenant Warwick, a scout, and 14 troops, O'Sullivan is out on the quest of his life.One word of caution. This book is full of gore, very detailed. It may not be suited for children or sensitive people. However, Mr. Blair is making this as real as possible. There are some equally humorous parts, too. I love the level of detail in this book. It, as a whole, is extraordinary. Like his previous Civil War novels, you will feel like you are literally in the book. The premise fits history and moves to worst case scenario quickly. I found the story captivating and extremely plausible. The author's grasp of the terrain was believable. I have travelled much of it. His understanding of the Indians of that day may have been off a bit. I don't believe they would have quit as easily as he describes. I gave the book 4 stars because the author over described many scenes. I prefer little description, only what is necessary for the story. That way I can paint the scenes and people in my own mind. The characters were believable. The timeline was feasible. The plotted scenes were logically ordered. And, I was still surprised a couple of times.

By WJohnson I have read several books written by Blair Howard and have never been disappointed. I love this author! The Chase had me hooked from the first. Every time I had to put it down, I could not wait to pick it back up. I was furnished a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. This is one I AM GLAD I READ!

On August 7, 2011, former Pennsylvania Railroad type E8A diesel units No. 5711 and No. 5809 are passing through the borough of Greenville in Mercer County, Pennsylvania on the former Erie Railroad now Norfolk Southern Railway on a rail excursion in this photograph by the author. The Erie and Pittsburgh line of the Pennsylvania Railroad once served Greenville. Kenneth Springirth, with a lifelong interest in rail transportation, has been researching the Pennsylvania Railroad since 1960. Born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he commuted to Drexel Institute of Technology (now Drexel University) in Philadelphia by trolley car, subway, and sometimes Pennsylvania Railroad commuter train. His father was a trolley car motorman in Philadelphia, and his grandfather was a trolley car motorman in Washington D.C. This book is a photographic essay documenting the Pennsylvania Railroad, which considered itself the standard railroad of the world. Classic scenes of the Pennsylvania Railroad's amazing GG1 electric locomotives operating on the most successful electrification project in the United States are included. This book provides an insight to an extensive railroad system that survives today with the Norfolk Southern Railway owning much of former mainline trackage in Pennsylvania and Amtrak owning the Northeast Corridor plus trackage between Philadelphia and Harrisburg. In addition, there are a variety of regional and shortline railroads that contribute to Remembering the Pennsylvania Railroad.

A detailed researcher, Ken’s interest in rail transportation by 2013 has culminated in writing 20 books on trolley car systems and railroads covering a variety of locations.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. It's OK By David M. Williams I'm sure that some people would give just about any book on their favorite railroad 5 stars. Or maybe this author. But as the 2 star review said, it's pretty much just pictures. I was hoping for more text and maps on routes and maybe more on history, but the author has probably covered all that before somewhere. I thought there was a bit too much coverage of post PRR (Penn Central fans would vehemently disagree!). I'm glad that I bought the book but it doesn't over as much as I would have liked to see.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Pennsylvania Railroad By R. Ray Leader This is a great book, well presented and documented. The photos are crisp and relevant to the subject. I highly recommend the book to anyone that is interested in the Pennsylvania Railroad and it's history.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. The way Springirth should be done By Keith L. Johnson Coming from NW Pennsylvania I am a fan of Kenneth Springirth. This book which has the basic format of his many Images of Rails books is a dramatic improvement since it has bigger pages and the pictures are in clear and sharp color. This is the way I wish the Images of Rails books were. As far as content goes it is a bit of a hodgepodge covering places the author has visited through the years particularly near Erie and Philadelphia. There is a nice collection of early views including postcards as well. An additional highlight are reproduced schedules of passenger trains - much easier to read by the way. Overall I was very pleased (note it isn't much more expensive either than the IOR books) and hope that Springirth will continue publishing this way and just maybe be able to reissue some of his earlier titles particularly Bessemer and Lake Erie RR in this format.

By Jane This guide needs to be updated with eBay's current policies on driving small sellers out of their market. Also, needs to discuss insertion fees and final value fees. Pitfalls of selling on eBay as well, they have changed their policies over the years and it has become more difficult for sellers to make a profit on their site due to these changes. Although they are one of the largest online auction sites, it as been saturated with many listings from China sellers. Discuss further the buyer's ploy to use the "item not as described" marking to make sellers pay for return shipping. Recently had a buyer mark this on an item that was still in transit and had not been delivered. I provided a RMA and customer did not return the item. eBay sent a hold on the funds and sided with the buyer. This left me with a $55.00 loss, plus shipping when the item was new with tags and buyer opened a case before item was received instead of changing their mind and returning the item at their "shipping" cost. The one thing I have learned over the last fifteen years as a top rated power seller there is things are definitely changing and I recently learned that beginning May1, 2015, you'll be forced to open an eBay store at an inflated rate should you want to sell over 20 items per month.
