By WRP Divas Review Team We would like to first thank Author Isiko Cooks aka Peter Mack for always giving the WRP Divas advance copies of his work. Filthy gave us mixed feelings. The author did a great job recreating is childhood and pulling the reader into his experiences; from the death of his Aunt to the first time he had sex. I was a little thrown at first because I wasn't sure who was the narrative character; he just jumped right into the story. We believe many can relate to the experiences the author wrote about. For some on a daily basis. Ray Ray was only 14 but he seemed far, far older than his years. He was wise and approached life with an “old soul.” His life changed drastically when he was forced to live with his grandmother. As a result he was exposed to a life his mother tried very hard to protect him from—drugs, sex, murder. He experienced it all. Mr. Cooks made you feel each day, from sun up to sun down. You will be pulled into the story and not even realize it. That is the makings a great story. While trying not to get the story away, you will not be disappointed in picking up this book. If this is your first book by Mr. Cooks, his style is unlike anyone else…it may take a bit to get into the story, but once you understand the flow, you will not be able to put it down.Great Job Isiko!!!Lissha and Mz Toni

I knew this author had potential to become a great writer. Filthy is the proof. This book was very well written and detailed.Ray Ray was a young 14 year old boy trying to become a man at an early age. He went to live with his grandmother temporarily and was exposed to everything his mother tried to steer his away from. His grandmother warned his to stay away from his uncles because she knew her sons were drug dealers and would be a bad influence on Ray Ray. He was hard headed and did the opposite. He fell prey to the drugs, hustling, sex and murder. His young life would be drastically changed. He was in love with the money and power he felt. The grit, grind and sunshine. The book ended where his mother came to pick him up and take him home. The question is will he return to his sheltered life of is this just the beginning for Ray Ray, a full blown drug dealer. Patiently awaiting for the continuance. Great book. The cover was on point and the acknowledgments were wonderful. One click Filthy and enjoy this five star read.Dee, 4 The Reader N U Presents

Maynard Murray was a medical doctor who researched the crucial importance of minerals—especially trace elements—to plants and animals. Beginning in 1938 and continuing through the 1950s, Dr. Murray used sea solids—mineral salts remaining after water is evaporated from ocean water—as fertilizer on a variety of vegetables, fruits and grains. His extensive experiments demonstrated repeatedly and conclusively that plants fertilized with sea solids and animals fed sea-solid-fertilized feeds grow stronger and more resistant to disease. Sea Energy Agriculture recounts Murray's experiments and presents his astounding conclusions. The work of this eco-pioneer was largely ignored during his lifetime, and his book became a lost classic—out-of-print for more than 25 years. Now this rare volume is once again available, with a new foreword and afterword by the founder of Acres U.S.A., Charles Walters.

Rocky Mountain Lawmen...The Only Law The Land Had Ever Known They were hard-riding men of the western frontier...a bold and rugged breed of straight-shooters meting out their own brand of high country justice...sworn to bring order to a wild and savage land where the only law was a loaded gun... When trouble forced Travis Rhodes to flee his Clearwater, Iowa home, the rugged Civil War veteran hit the Oregon Trail west—where where the lure of gold made greedy dangerous fools of men. But in the rough-and-ready Colorado mining town Intolerance, high in the Rockies, Rhodes met with a new breed of violence. Stepping in after the marshal was cut down in cold blood by marauding outlaws. Rhodes pinned the badge to his chest to deliver justice in a town where a blazing shotgun was the creed men lived—and died—by. Dalton Turlow, leader of the meanest gang of gun toughs in the territory, wasn't about to let a greenhorn lawman stop him from shooting his way to a fortune in gold. But if it was all-out war Turlow wanted. then war he'd get, as Travis rode out of town amid a blizzard of bullets and blood...and headed for a showdown where the first to draw wasn't always the last to die.

The main character is a whore master and his geezer friend wasn't killed off soon enough . The banter between these two idiots, reminded me of the moronic parts played by two chuckleheads in the movie stalag 13 . These parts were childish and embarrassing. (You need a minus star system!)

By WhiteCougar I liked this one. Good read. I really expected it to be a continuation of the first in the Rocky Mountain Lawmen series, but it wasn't. Just a story, albeit a good one, of another Rocky Mountain lawman. And it was a great western. Edge of your seat, cover to cover reading. Try it, you won't be disappointed.

A Growing Thriller By Rose The novel begins with a growing amount of background information with a splattering of drama, but as the story progresses so does the excitement and drama all leading up to an explosive conclusion. So saddle up and enjoy your read.

The transmigration of Cyrano By Bishop Baker The spirit of Cyrano de Bergerac is reborn in the form of an heroic and stubborn rooster, who is convinced (and may convince you) that his daily salute to the dawn is what actually makes the sun rise. His eloquence is rivaled only by that of Cyrano himself, and indeed this play depends on the sublimity of Rostand's verbal artistry, which shines through any translation. You can't resist reading parts of it aloud, with or without an audience.

How is this book unique?

Formatted for E-Readers, Unabridged & Original version. You will find it much more comfortable to read on your device/app. Easy on your eyes. Includes: 15 Colored Illustrations and Biography Faust is a tragic play in two parts usually known in English as Faust, Part One and Faust, Part Two. Although rarely staged in its entirety, it is the play with the largest audience numbers on German-language stages. Faust is Goethe's magnum opus and considered by many to be one of the greatest works of German literature. The earliest forms of the work, known as the Urfaust, were developed between 1772 and 1775; however, the details of that development are not entirely clear. Urfaust has twenty-two scenes, one in prose, two largely prose and the remaining 1,441 lines in rhymed verse. The manuscript is lost, but a copy was discovered in 1886. The first appearance of the work in print was Faust, a Fragment, published in 1790. Goethe completed a preliminary version of what is now known as Part One in 1806. Its publication in 1808 was followed by the revised 1828–29 edition, the last to be edited by Goethe himself. Goethe finished writing Faust Part Two in 1831. In contrast to Faust Part One, the focus here is no longer on the soul of Faust, which has been sold to the devil, but rather on social phenomena such as psychology, history and politics, in addition to mystical and philosophical topics. The second part formed the principal occupation of Goethe's last years. It appeared only posthumously in 1832.

121 of 121 people found the following review helpful. The most accurate of the translations I've read By Ramon Kranzkuper Looking at some reviews by other reviewers, I realized that not everybody has heard of Faust or of Goethe, and I was pretty shocked. The first part of what I'm saying is about this translation. As Luke so graphically showed in his "Translator's introduction", there are many things that pull at the translator's central agenda: rhyme, metre, primary meaning, nuance, and so on, and the translator has to achieve a balance. Among the translations I've read and from snippets of what I've seen of other translations, Luke's translation is the most accurate of the ones I've read, in many ways. In other words, the compromises that Luke himself details have been executed here with near-perfection.It comes down to what you like. Luke's translation is the closest among all attempts so far to being dubbed a "universal" tranlslation. But just as we cannot have a universal programming language, we cannot have a translation that will please everybody. The positives for this translation are of course the extraordinary faithfulness to the original while maintaining rhyme. The negatives are of course what one would expect; the translation does not read smoothly on the line level. To clarify, a line carries over to the next line in too many cases to make for a "smooth read". An example:"Refreshment! It's your own soul that must pour / It through you, if it's to be anything."This "pour it" example siuation occurs too often, and is jarring for those who "grew up" with Arndt's or Wayne's translations. The second part of what I'm writing is about Faust itself, the Masterwork: as any German will tell you, Faust is one of the centrepieces of literature, and it is worthwhile learning German JUST to read Faust. Each person comes away from "Faust" having found that that he/she was looking for. Every person is reflected in Faust; "Faust" is the ultimate story of Man. What tempts us, what keeps us, what draws us on, what tears us, what defines us, what lies in store for us - it is all there. "Faust" is a journey everyone should undertake. There is nothing controversial here - no "God", no "Hellfire", nothing but Goethe's straightforward but not blunt, sensitive but not compromised, philosophical but not dreamy, analysis of the human situation. "Faust" is the Master thinker Goethe's sincere attempt at looking at it all; and it does not fall visibly short of the task.Part I should be read by everyone; Part II is not strictly a sequel, but in many ways is, as Wayne shows in his Introduction. Part II requires some knowledge of Greek Mythology; and does in many ways "complete the story". Only, it goes way beyond that.

Many consider Goethe the greatest German writer and Faust his masterwork. 300 years old and we are still reading and learning from it. It is an excellent read.I am inspired to write this review because of Walter Kaufmann's excellent and (to read reviews) misunderstood translation. Kauffman's intentions are stated clearly in his introduction. Meter and rhyme are preserved as much as possible, and all the text that is translated (all of part one and sections of part two) is done exactingly without one line added or removed. Kaufmann's goal was to 1> re-create the rhythmic drive of Goethe's wit, 2> create a *readable* translation not just for the scholar but for the reader as well, 3> provide an exacting translation that avoids the embellishments of prior translations. It should go without saying that any translation that doubles the length of a speech or replaces subtle humor with flowery speech is a poor one.Kaufmann, unlike many other translators, has both the knowledge of German and an appreciation for cultural context to reach all of those goals. While this translation might not be the best for scholars (since much of Part Two is trimmed), it is the best translation for *readers*.

George I am very glad to have been exposed to this classic and am definitely pleased to have read this particular translation of it. Though the rhythm was occasionally jarring (see review below), Luke's EXTENSIVE introduction (50 pages or so!) and explanatory notes helped me get so much out of this piece. I received glimpses of insight on German history, the Germanic culture, witchcraft, superstition, how 18th century "geniuses" viewed Shakespeare, traditional church customs, etc.For those who don't know, the basic premise of this story is based on a German folk legend. In that legend from the 16th century, a learned man named Faust sold his soul to the Devil in order to gain more knowledge and understanding. As that legend grew and became incorporated in the Germanic culture, so did its appeal to many artists. There have been apparently many writers and such who have used this legend as a foundation for their works. However, of all the Faust tales, Goethe's appears to be the preeminent one today. Why? Well, for one thing, he worked on this intermittantly from 1770 to 1808 with 3 main versions cited. Goethe became quite famous for many of his other works, and this one apparently gives great insight to his personal philosophies at different stages. Thus, many find it worth studying. Also, as Goethe was a central figure in Germany's emergence from the Enlightenment era into the Romantic era, his work - and especially this piece - was celebrated by those trying to usher in a new way. While the number of submovements is slightly tricky to keep track of, the main thrust is that the young intellectuals idolized Goethe and championed his cause. His version of Faust became the source for many plays and even an opera which I think is still performed today. But what about the tale itself? Goethe certainly has a genius and it blooms in a novel way in this piece. Though he left the Christian faith early on in life, he realized that the concepts of good, evil, sin, temptation, condemnation to hell, hedonism, etc. all had a dramatic weight to them that was irresistable to his as an artist. Thus, as he developed this piece, he leaned heavily on the faith, superstition and legends of his day in order to weave this tale. As such, you get a wonderful, power tale that gives you a great - though somewhat twisted - picture of the Germanic culture of his time.HOWEVER, Goethe does some really odd things as well. For instance, as he added to this piece over the years, he often didn't change much of the former material. Therefore, in the piece there are many internal contradictions and dangling references. In addition, he tended to throw in verses he developed for other purposes - such as one of the prologues and the "Walpurgis Night Dream" scenario - which don't technically have anything to do with the storyline. Even his whole focus on Gretchen - while generally the focus of most plays and operas - actually wasn't a part of the original Faust legened. And yet, it all worked together somehow and was a delight to read. All in all, I think reading this short, weighty classic was well worth the time. It helped add a piece of understanding about Euporean thought and culture 200 years ago as well as speak some to my own life.
