8 of 8 people found the following review helpful. Not what I expected By E. Foley Story of Jenni that bubbly talkative friend of the gang and Jeremiah from Book 1, now resurrected as Beau. They meet at Jazzy's wedding because she's getting beat up and almost killed by Maxton... that bartender from the last book.Beau takes her to the hospital and then nurses her to health back at his apartment where they develop this intense relationship... and I had trouble getting through this section. I had huge issues with what the author perceives as falling in love, but what is really hero worship and recovery from emotional and physical trauma coupled with a guy with a million military secrets and PTSD.Warning: this Jenni is not the one we've come to know in the first two books. When she starts to find herself we learn a lot more about this young woman who is learning about herself as she falls in love. The relationships she has with Lynlee and Jazzy are tested as is Jenni's strength in loss. The last 20% of the book is pretty darn emotional.And we don't exactly get an HEA here and there's an apparent 4th book that ties it all up.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. Unrealistic By Jenna Shames I love the idea behind this series, but this book was by far my least favorite. Not because I don't like Jenni and Beau but because I couldn't wrap my head around the timeline. When Beau met Jenni, she had 2 broken ribs and a broken arm. But in 6 days she was healed enough for rough sex, and in 12 days all that was left were bruises. There was never any mention of the cast aside from stating that it was there, so it just magically disappeared. In what world does it take 12 days for your body to completely heal from those kinds of injuries?! And why mention a cast if you are just going to completely forget about it? It genuinely pissed me off. I also don't understand why Beau had to go into some sort of witness protection. If you were thought dead in a war, but it turns out you aren't they don't typically pack you up and ship you to another state with strict orders to never contact your family again. I was left feeling that the writer has NO idea what she is talking about which is really disappointing. Aside from those flaws, the idea of the story is really good. But the execution just leaves a lot to be desired

Beau Morgan, as he is now known, has to set up a new life in a new town a long way from everything and anyone he's ever known, including his little girl. He lives a solitary life, living off the bare minimum he needs and living with a lot of aggression inside him just itching to come out.Jenni Lee gets herself into a lot of sticky situations, The worst being when her on-off boyfriend beats her to a bloody pulp outside her friends wedding reception. Beau is the one to save her and takes care of her. What comes next, well, you'll have to read and see.This story had me on such an emotional ride. I cried when Beau got his news, I sobbed my hear out when Jenni got both sets of news and wanted to climb into the book and give her a cuddle.This book sucked me right in and i couldn't put it down. Well Done HJ Bellus 5 stars most definitely earned!!

I would agree with another reviewer who said it was more like a "pamphlet." I thought it would be interesting since I am passionate about learning. All that this book is is a quick pep talk on how you can be a genius if you really believe in yourself, and an explanation on how to speed read. What a rip off... Spend your money elsewhere. I wish Amazon would have a real book filter to protect buyers from "books" like these. Do not purchase.

Not that I consider myself that old but I have to admit learning has become more difficult as I've grown older. I’ve always admired the great geniuses like Einstein and Gates and have wondered what was running in their minds. I imagine their brains are like giant sponges just absorbing everything they focus on. I grabbed this book hoping to learn something new. It mentions a lot of things like the mindset of a genius, speed reading and retention, etc. But what struck me the most is step 5 of 5 which is commit to spend 20 hours on learning something. It actually makes sense. I don’t expect to learn violin after taking just one class. I have to commit my time in order to learn how to play and give more hours to become an expert.

People that do not like to learn have always amazed me, and he points out the reasons and how to overcome those traits that people who do not like to learn have learned growing up. He states a simple 5 step plan to learn. He covers the fact that it only takes 20 hours to learn anything, if you follow his steps. He had a quote that I thought was priceless, "If you want to master the art of learning, you need to learn the value of time. A person that knows the value of time is a person that knows how to use it effectively, and will make the most out of what they have." Certainly worth reading especially if you do not like to learn.

By Miguel Rentes This book provides an excellent learning artifact and reference to the Test-Driven Development practice. Even if you have already used TDD in your software projects or continue to use it, you will benefit a lot of reading this book, because it will show you how to take the most out of using TDD with Python's unittest built-in module in a simple software application to follow. The book is also very easy and accessible to read. It makes the reader acknowledge all the power of TDD and the tools the author uses to extend the TDD practice is a value asset to use on any software project.Why this is a great book to me:- The TDD approach is carefully explained and the importance of using it in our software projects;- The software application the author uses as an example on how to use TDD is simple to understand, and it is a real world software application, not an abstract example; We go carefully into every module of this application while improving our application with TDD;- This book covers Refactoring Patterns and Anti-Patterns and how to avoid recurrent Code Smells;- Explains how to use Mock Objects to test interactions between multiple objects;- Tells us how to deal with legacy code which have no tests. This is a must-read chapter!- Shows us how to maintain our test suite with docstrings, custom test class hierarchies, fixtures, helper methods, custom assert matches, equality functions and matchers to make our code more readable;- Covers executable documentation with Python's doctest module, on methods, classes, modules and packages;- Shows us how to extend Python's unittest with nose2, a powerful third-party tool and plugin suite;- Covers Unit Test Patterns, from Mocking Patterns, Spies, Generator functions, to Mocking with Mutable Arguments;- A rich set of powerful tools is gathered in this book: from third-party tools and Python's built-in modules, build tools, packaging tools, continuous integration tools, documentation tools and current TDD IDE integration;- Python 3.4 throughout this book, although the author has compiled an annex on how to use the code samples in Python 2.6 as well.Overall, this is a great book to read and to use in every software development process. I've already read the Django TDD book by Henry Percival and covered the Testing Python book by David Sale, they were both really informative and covered TDD principles and tools in a manner I found clear and easy to understand. That being said, this book started to lose me around the 3rd chapter. Here's my analysis:Pros:-The author covers a lot of really good topics related to TDD. Code smells, refactoring, how to address a pre-existing code base that you're walking into for the first time were all topics I found to be really helpful.-The book challenged me to learn about Python topics that I had not previously known about. I wasn't sure how @classmethod worked or what the setUpClass method did in unittesting, but I certainly looked them up when the book presented them to me and was sure to fully understand them before proceeding.-The code coverage is available on GitHub, which is always great, so you can follow along easily.Cons:-I felt like the organization of the book started to slack around the 2nd chapter in Exploring the Rule classes. The whole point of TDD is for the programmer to write the tests first and the implementation code 2nd. We make the tests fail, we write code until it passes, we move on. Then we refactor. Great. Why, in the 2nd chapter, are we then presented with implementation code (no tests), then a discussion of TDD principles, followed by "here's the tests and they should pass".-Further to this point, it started to get difficult to read in chapter 3 which begins discussion of a new functionality, dual crossover moving average. Immediately, we get the implementation code (again, no tests) followed by a discussion about renaming variable and renaming method refactoring methods, both of which involve running the tests first to make sure they pass. When it comes time to implement this code, the author simply says "the tests are in the exercise section". So I'm supposed to read up to that point, then skip to the end to check out the exercises and get the tests, then go back and continue working on the code base? Furthermore, I am looking at the exercises as I type this and there is no presentation of those tests whatsoever.-Finally, while the book does cover some good topics, there are times when it gets a little off topic (I guess). For instance, in the section regarding commenting styles, we begin discussion about how to properly write comments (of course). However, rather than applying this to the current code base and application we are working on, the author gives an example of determining if people are old enough to receive a senior citizen discount. I know this is a simple example, but why switch gears when we could have easily applied this to what was being worked on (there was a presentation of a very poorly written method at the beginning of the chapter). All in all, I wouldn't say this was a poor book, I've read some O'Reilly work that could make you want to quit programming altogether, but I do think there could be some effective revisions to make it easier to read and understand. I have a lot of respect for authors who decide to take on TDD as it is a discipline and requires constant effort and attention. That being said, I would recommend this book to review the principles and topics discussed, but not necessarily to follow along in a step by step manner.

By Jacob Zimmerman Cons:- Kindle format text is WAY too big (at least on my device) - they're looking into getting this fixed if they can- Packt Publishing didn't do the best job with editing. There are quite a few (not a LOT, but enough to be a bit annoying) mistakes of all kinds. Missing words, code mistakes, typos, etc.- A TDD book that only starts off showing TDD, then mostly doesn't show tests until after showing the code.Pros:+ Great at introducing TDD and unit testing in python, then really digging into the more advanced stuff.+ First thing I've found that explains Python's built-in mocking framework very well.+ Doesn't repeat too much and doesn't move too quicklyNote: Only 3 or 4 (out of 10) chapters are truly about TDD as opposed to just unit testing. It's up to you whether this is good or bad.

On such points I have often referred to Curtius, i.e., to Grundzuge der griechischen Etymologie von George Curtius, Third Ed., Leipzig, 1869.The grammatical references are to Syntax of the Moods and Tenses of the Greek Verb, by Prof. W. W. Goodwin, Sixth Ed., London, 1875; and to Syntax of the Greek Language, by Dr J. N. Madvig, Edited by T. Kerchever Arnold, Sec. Ed., 1873.In the occasional translations I have only aimed at reproducing the exact idea of the Greek, not at putting Pindar's sentiments into the most elegant and poetic English prose at my command; as I conceive that the office of interpreter cannot well be thoroughly combined with that of a tasteful translator.The introduction to and analyses of the several odes are intended to give as clear a view as possible of the design of each poem and the relations of the several parts to each other and the whole. 3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Pindar: Commentary on Olympian & Pythian Odes By Khares An oldie, but a goodie. Gildersleeve was sensible and the book was quite good in its time. Naturally, one will miss the many advances in scholarship, especially since the 1960's. The style of commentary will daunt today's students: it assumes considerable learning in ancient Greek poetry (esp. lyric and epic) on the part of the reader, and divulges its learning in an abbreviated and allusive style that often frustrates. Its main attraction is the comprehensiveness: all 14 Olympian and 12 Pythian Odes are treated. My need was to read selected Odes prescribed on a PhD reading list. Many fine, modern scholarly and school editions exist (for example Cambridge U Press 'green & yellow' series, a Bryn Mawr commentary, David Young's "The Odes" et al.) but all are selections. With Gildersleeve at least one gets a sensible, if dated, full commentary on over half of Pindar's extant poems.

Gildersleeve is one of the finest Pindar scholars to date and his commentary is a must have for anyone considering reading, studying or writing on these poems. This paperback is sturdy and well bound, although a new reprint, with an up-to-date introduction, together with a revision would be more than desirable.

The Douglas A-3 Skywarrior, though something of a cult favourite, remains a largely unremarked classic of Naval Aviation. Built for nuclear weapon delivery, the A-3 made its name in Vietnam as a conventional bomber, tanker and Electronic Warfare platform. It was the largest aircraft ever regularly operated from the decks of aircraft carriers, earning it the fleet-wide nickname 'Whale'. It excelled in every mission area assigned to it and operated in the US Navy for more than four decades, from 1956 through to 1991. Fully illustrated to depict the incredible array of paint schemes and awesome size, this volume focuses on the type's Vietnam service, which saw the aircraft briefly used as a bomber over both North and South Vietnam from March 1965, before the Skywarrior proved far more valuable as a multi-role tanker (KA-3B) and tanker/tactical jammer (EKA-3B). About the Author Rick Morgan is the author of three previous books on Naval Aviation history (including Osprey A-6 Intruder of the Vietnam War) and more than 20 historical articles on the subject of Naval Aviation. Twice named 'Contributor of the Year' by the editorial staff of The Hook - The Journal of Carrier Aviation, Rick is a retired lieutenant commander from the US Navy with more 2300 hours of flight time, principally in EA-6B, A-4 and A-3 type aircraft. He amassed 440.5 carrier arrested landings (the 0.5 involved him ejecting from an aircraft that crashed on a carrier deck), and also flew 41 combat missions during Operation Desert Storm in 1991. Rick currently works for Boeing in St Louis, Missouri.

Fills a longstanding gap By Barrett Tillman Rick Morgan is more than qualified to write the Skywarrior installment in Osprey’s Combat Aircraft series. As a former Navy electronic warfare officer he brings an intimate knowledge of the subject, since the “Whale” spent much of its long career in the EW realm. The book is organized logically, as much topically as chronologically because of the A-3’s exceptionally varied missions. Aside from the original nuclear attack role, the Skywarrior performed notably in conventional roles including reconnaissance, photography, and especially in-flight refueling. The late Rear Adm. Jig Dog Ramage, who largely “saved the Whale” early in its career, said, “Tanker gas is the most expensive there is because you pay for it twice. But when you need it, you really need it!” As the title indicates, most of the book focuses on A-3 operations from Tonkin Gulf carriers between 1965 and 1973. However, Morgan covers the Whale’s many retirements through 1991 due to the exceptional variety of A-3 models and missions. Each section includes I-was-there narratives by Skywarrior aircrews, enhancing the book’s readability. A brief diversion: I was fortunate to know Ed Heinemann, the A-3’s designer. He always said that despite the attention given the SBD and A-4, he was proudest of the Whale because his Douglas team brought in a 100,000-pound concept aircraft at less than 70,000 pounds gross weight. That’s an achievement well worth celebrating. With an extensive appendix and illustrated in typical Osprey fashion with dozens of photos and 30 Jim Laurier full-color profiles, this offering will be a frequent reference for years to come.

Woodul Rick Morgan’s A-3 SKYWARRIOR UNITS UNITS OF THE VIETNAM WAR will proudly join his other books on my shelf. The Osprey Combat Aircraft Series book is the usual class act from that outfit, well illustrated with Whales of all sorts to go with Rick’s well-researched text. As a Navy A-4 Attack pilot, whose first combat mission in South Viet Nam was on the wing of an A-3, and who was yet another saved from a “Briny Fate” by their providential tanking, I have more than a casual interest in the subject. Anyone interested in Naval Aviation will be fascinated by this huge aircraft operating off the small 27 Charlie class of aircraft carriers, as well as the effective use of operational anecdote of the Whale operating both as tanker and ECM bird. By all measure, Whale crews were gallant chaps, and Rick Morgan has served them well.

Nilsen This book is far more than its title suggests; it is in fact a concentrated history of the Skywarrior's complete career to its last Navy use in 1991 and last contractor hop in 2011 as well as the interesting history of the rise of the Navy's electronic attack community with side trips to the Heavy Photo (VAP) and VQ communities. While a 96-page book can not cover all of that ground in great depth, the author writes with consummate efficiency and grace in this operational history, keeping the reader aware of the aircraft being flown, where they were flown from, and the squadrons and detachments (Dets) flying them and the constant evolution of those organizations.Whenever the author introduces a new variant of the A-3 he places it in the clear context of the squadrons using it and their basing (for example, allowing us to watch how the electronic warfare community wound up at Whidbey Island via its VAH forebears) and the establishment, disestablishment, splitting, and merging of squadrons that operated the new versions. He integrates this information effortlessly into the narration, showing how the EKA-3Bs replaced the EA-1 Spads in the VAW squadrons, how the VAQ squadrons were then split out of the VAW squadrons, and nimbly follows all of the family trees, the numbering series of the new VAQ community, their names and callsigns, without this ever feeling like it slows down the flow of the text. He also clearly follows in the text and in a very useful table, the deployments of all of the Skywarrior VAW and VAQ dets as well as the stand-alone squadrons created to replace the Dets on the bigger decks. He clearly traces how AIRPAC and AIRLANT used their A-3 assets differently, with the Pacific having far more Essex 27C carriers, how the AIRPAC and AIRLANT used different Det designation schemes before settling on a numbered model, and how the VAH community lived on for a while, supplying either direct tanker Dets or tankers to round out VAQ Dets.Just as impressive as the information above, this book clearly lays out the differences, often muddied in other books and on-line resources, between the A-3 versions with their multi-layered mission modifiers: EA-3, EKA-3, RA-3, ERA-3, making it very simple and straight-forward. A-3Bs became KA-3Bs, and some of these became EKA-3Bs and later reverted back to simple KA-3Bs. All of these were built as BOMBERS, with a fuselage bomb bay, whether filled with fuel tanks and electronics or not. The EA-3Bs, RA-3Bs, and TA-3Bs were a different aircraft, with no bomb bays and a pressurized, MANNED fuselage instead of a bomb bay. Further, their missions were quite different. The EKA-3Bs were tactical jammers in the VAQ squadrons, which gave rise to the EA-6B and then EA-18 communities, and some of these aircraft lived on as KA-3Bs in the Reserve VAK squadrons. The EA-3Bs were ELINT birds, the carrier-based elements of the multi-type VQ squadrons, the forerunners of the short-lived ES-3As. The RA-3Bs served in the Heavy Photo VAP squadrons until these were discontinued, and then some were modified into ERA-3Bs which were too heavy to operate from carriers. These served only in the electronic aggressor squadrons VAQ-33 and 34, providing realistic electronic warfare training in the aggressor role. The TA-3Bs served as trainers and shadow VIP aircraft, and the sole VA-3B was actually a converted EA-3B.While the book mentions the NRA-3Bs and other N-versions in passing, it does not go into them in detail. Since these were not fleet aircraft the book does not suffer from their omission, especially not at the expense of the material described above.The narrative spine, which the above themes weave through, are the deployments and operations of the A-3 entering service prior to the war, given briefly to set the stage, during the Vietnam war, and then 1975-1991. This starts with the VAH HATRONs and their deployments and operations, their very early repurposing into the tanking and jamming missions, and a nice story about GEN Westmoreland being honked that his Navy bombers didn't have bombsights. There are a number of good accounts of tanker heroics, tales of itinerant EA and RA missions shuttling among land bases and carrier decks, and some very good discussion of how tricky and accident-prone the Whale was around the boat: 42% of all A-3 production was lost in mishaps, and Morgan carefully details these. Strikingly, Morgan does not belabor the old A3D "All 3 Dead" joke, but instead turns it on its head, observing that the plane only lasted so long because it DIDN'T have ejection seats. And through all this he still keeps our eye on how the Heavy Attack community split into the A-3 (West coast) and A-5 (East coast) halves and both evolved into non-bombing missions, the RA-5Cs becoming the RVAH squadrons that replaced the RA-3B VAP squadrons.The color plates are outstanding with 27 in the standard gull grey over gloss white showing the distinctive and colorful VAH, VAW, and VAQ markings, the addition of jammer blisters on EKAs and then their departure, four different variations in tanker stripes, and a multitude of variations in carrier, squadron, and Det markings. The remaining three are the famous green Kitty Hawk experiment, a field-expedient all black RA-3, and the official three-tone grey RA-3 scheme.The A-3 story is a complex and convoluted one, sitting at the nexus of many brand-new Navy missions in the 1960s, but this book makes it look effortless, and communicates great clarity to the reader. I can not recommend it highly enough.

About the Author

ALFRED LEICK, PHD, has served on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Geodetic Surveying. He currently lectures at Michigan Technological University and is the Editor-in-Chief of scholarly journal GPS Solutions.

LEV RAPOPORT, PHD, received Russia's highest scientific degree, Doctor of Science, from the Institute of Control Sciences of the Russian Academy of Science, where he is now head of laboratory. He is also a professor at the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology.

DMITRY TATARNIKOV, PHD, received the Doctor of Science degree from Moscow Aviation Institute, where he is currently a professor. He is also the Chief of GNSS Antenna Design and Development for Topcon Technology Center.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Invaluable Addition To The GPS Scientific Literature By Jeremy S I am delighted to finally see another edition of this classical text on GPS/GNSS. Since the book provides a detailed treatment on adjustments and geodesy, it has been a helpful reference for me for many years while working on high-accuracy GNSS positioning applications.This fourth edition represents a major expansion and a new arrangement of the topics. It now begins with two adjustment sections, followed by geodesy, and then GPS/GNSS. This arrangement seems more logical and therefore items of interest are easier to find. The number of pages has doubled from about 400 to 800. Basically three major chapters have been added. One of them is a dedicated and stand-alone chapter which is Chapter 3 on Recursive Least Squares. This technique is very suitable for applications when the parameters and the number of parameters changes with time, as occurs when a receiver moves and satellites rise and set. The technique is therefore the basis of the other new chapter, Chapter 7, on real-time RTK. This chapter provides details of, e.g. the combined use of GPS and GLONASS observations at a level of completeness suitable for implementation as receiver software. The last new chapter, Chapter 9, is dedicated to GPS user antennas. This 100+ page treatment of various antenna subjects, apparently the work of a new coauthor and antenna expert, is comprehensive in its content, and is a unique feature in a surveying/geodesy book on GNSS. The material gets to the bottom of multipath, antenna phase pattern, and so on.Like previous editions, I am sure the 4th edition will maintain the unique slot which the book always had in the GPS/GNSS literature. It remains an invaluable resource for those who need to understand GNSS beyond operating a GNSS receiver, and to those who need to know how GNSS positioning is embedded in geodesy. Interestingly, this new edition maintains the material on conformal mapping, State Plane Coordinate Systems, and continues to feature the 3D geodetic model as the most universal model. Since the book addresses such a rich set of topics in a unified manner it should continue to be of interest to professionals from many disciplines such as surveyors, engineers, geologists, geophysicists, navigators, and GNSS hardware and software developers, last but not least students. Just the new material added makes it worthwhile to get this new edition.Jeremy S

With the addition of a new chapter on recursive least squares, the book now presents a comprehensive treatment of least squares with a depth equivalent to what is found in dedicated books on that topic. In the new Chapter 7 these recursive least squares formulations are applied to provide a unified and comprehensive treatment of real-time kinematic positioning using observations from the various satellite systems. Chapter 8 provides an excellent treatment on user antenna technology. This chapter is written by an antenna expert and is certainly of interest to geodesist and anyone concerned with accurate positioning.

About the Author Bruce A. Wolle, MSE, PE, a licensed engineer in 22 states, provides professional engineering services in geotechnical and materials engineering. For more than 25 years he has provided senior engineering supervision and management for projects in the fields of surveying, field explorations and drilling, seismic damage characterizations, design recommendations, and construction quality control/quality assurance in renewable energy development. Mr. Wolle has over 15 years of experience as a civil engineering review course supervisor, coordinator, and instructor. He holds a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from New Mexico State University and a master of science in engineering degree in civil engineering (geotechnical and seismic studies) from Arizona State University.
