It doesn't seem to be unified, but that is not the purpose. It is like watching previews at a movie theater. If you are wondering what an author in this collection is like, try her out with this sample. Then if you are interested, go buy her book. I liked lots of these story snippets.

Good Start, but not a Book By jkcook The author does a good job of painting a picture of rural Ireland but then stops be cut before anything really happens. I didn't read the description carefully enough to notice that it's not really a novel just a short story. Actually, it's just the first few chapters of a book. Hopefully, the rest will be published soon and we'll get the whole of the title. The characters are well portrayed and the setting is being laid for an intriguing story.

Whether you are a fan of historical fiction, find Irish history particularly compelling, are captured by a tale of romance and loss or just love a great read, The Equal of God will leave you eager for more. The author, Helen Cassidy Page, has done her research and the details of the suffering endured through the terrible Irish potato famine are brought to life through the lives of her characters. But her true talent is as a natural-born storyteller. As soon as the reader picks up this saga, her or she will be captured by the author's lively voice and beautifully descriptive prose. By getting to know the intimate lives of Agnes and John, their children and neighbors and the people they encounter when they're forced from their home, history becomes so much more than the facts of the case. It's history told by the people who live it -- and through all their tragedies, endure and are sustained by love.As a counterpoint to the suffering of Irish peasants, we're also introduced to the landed gentry, who, while not suffering from the famine per se, certainly have challenges of their own.The best recommendation I can give is say, "Read it!"

Riverside International Raceway documents the history of a track now gone (it is now a subdivision) in beautiful pictures and words.Right from the back dust jacket of the book we are told that even diehard Riverside raceway fans “will admit the environment was usually too hot, sometimes too cold, extremely dry or depressingly wet, often windy and never ever a garden spot” however they still came in droves.The book details the three decades or so of Riverside Raceway’s life and subsequent death. The desert, the races, the speed. It’s laid out in chapters that detail specifics of the track and the series that ran it including: FIA Formula 1, SCCA Pro Racing, NASCAR, TransAm, Can-AM, USAC, CART Indy Cars, IROC, Off Road (and the list goes on). A sampling of names in the book: Fred Lorenzen, Rick Mears, Geoff Bodine, Emerson Fittipaldi, Terry Labonte, Bobby Rahal, Tom Sneva, AJ Foyt, and native son Dan Gurney (who also wrote the book’s foreword) to name a few grabbed while flipping through the book to remind myself of its contents for review purposes. My favorite part of the book—beyond the photography—is just a little sidebar on page 43 detailing the track’s history in film—being so close yet so far away from Hollywood. The book is chucked full of interesting sidebars—including one on how the track was used for teaching driving (page 74), the Olympic Relay (Page 83). There are so many photos that it’s impossible to pick just one … but perhaps the most poignant picture is the one on page 191—a photo of a piece of the speedway and a Riverside Raceway patch. Gone but obviously not forgotten by this book.They physical book itself is a heavy duty book, with a gorgeous dust jacket. The book is 204 pages inclusive of the indexes.Written by Pete Lyons, Riverside International Raceway clearly demonstrates Lyon’s obvious love of motorsports and the time period of Riverside. Pete Lyon’s father, Ozzie Lyons, was the U.S. correspondent to Britain’s Autosport magazine, and often took Pete with him during vacations. Vintage Car Guys' Cornucopia By Stephen Smith This is the greatest-ever book about America's greatest-ever road-racing course (now plowed under a failing subdivision). Pete Lyons was there during its glory days, and--as he happens to be a great photographer--he captured many of the great moments, most of the great drivers and all of the great cars that raced there: Dan Gurney winning more NASCAR races there than anybody else; Carroll Shelby, whose Cobras dominated sports car racing there for a decade; all-American cars (like Jim Hall's Chaparrals and Max Balchowsky's Old Yeller) that fought off the best cars that Europe could build; World Champion Phil Hill, in whose back yard "The Palace of Speed" was built; America's other World Champion, Mario Andretti, in the star-crossed Honker; sophisticated Can-Am and Formula 1 machines, Trans-Am muscle cars, movie stars Paul Newman and Jim Garner taking turns behind the wheel; off-roader Mickey Thompson; Indy 500 winners A.J. A tribute to a great track from a great photographer.I couldn't help but think as I enjoyed every page, that the production or perhaps printing had not done the photos justice. As great as each image is, each one seems a little flat compared to other books featuring photographs and other Peter Lyons published pictures.I hate to be critical of a book I enjoy, but I suspect even the critical eye of the photographer and author might agree.Wade

A legendary author on a legendary track By James Pernikoff I never made it to Riverside while it was operating, and I regret that, but Pete Lyons' great photo book on the track makes up for that, at least in part. And Pete didn't miss anything; there are even chapters on club racing, motorcycles, drag racing and vintage racing. Dan Gurney writing the Foreword (and one more eloquent and heartfelt than in most books) was a natural choice. While each chapter lists the overall winners of all the races pertinent to the chapter, one might have wished for more complete results tables, but I guess that information can be found elsewhere if one has the time and energy to search.I actually did visit the shopping mall that was built on part of RIR's property, and it all seemed sacrilegious and unnecessary. I'm amazed that SoCal has not built a significant road course to replace this one; maybe they realized that it would be a tough act to follow! Thank you, Pete Lyons for the memories.

I have a very thumbed borrowed copy which I have to give back to a friend (hope he doesn't what a terrible state it is in) and am going to buy a fresh copy. The book is very good at starting from scratch and building up to a working system. I would thoroughly recommend this book.

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Highly Disappointing By Muñeca Blanco This was absolutely action packed from beginning to end. You will hate to put it down. Unfortunately, the story was very discouraging. The first quarter is quite a tear jerker. Afterwards, it becomes quite frustrating. I'm especially discouraged by it bc I am Apostolic/Pentecostal and have never heard of such going ons in The Church. There are religions that have problems --though I couldn't imagine them to this extent. I feel like this is an attack to cast negative light on The Church.

The super nexus consists of societal needs for economic and environmental sustainability, economic and population expansion, and simultaneous resources needs. These trends will begin to act collectively in a negatively synergistic manner to the detriment of human civilization if left unchecked. One consequence is skyrocketing resource costs which threaten the very fabric of societal functionality. So what does this all mean? What is the answer? It is that resolving the Super Nexus needs to be the focus and not CO2. Resource security using renewables, not CO2 should be the focus. Resource security is pivotal for societal functionality. If society gets most of its resources from renewables, then CO2 emissions will drop. Transitioning to a renewable economy also means that many of our resources which heretofore are emitted into the environment as waste are now recovered which will attenuate emissions and pollution of the environment.

HUGELY Valuable Book with Color Photographs, Embedded Yellow Highlights By Robert David STEELE Vivas This is one of the most useful, most intelligent, best presented and most timely books I have ever held in my hands. I am astonished by the affordable price in relation to both the substance and the cosmetics of the book. This is a focused holistic book that is a joy to read -- easy to read -- and it offers the single best text I have found for both graduate and undergraduate reading, and book clubs as well as government employees struggling to understand the lies and mis-representations of those seeking to avoid or undermine regulatory oversight.The print size and use of white space is complemented by something I have never seen in a mass market paperback, full color photographs, full color diagrams, and the selective use of yellow highlighting embedded across the book.This is a book steeped in integral consciousness, with a clear understanding and articulation of the fact that global warming is a symptom, not a root cause, and that global warming is but one of multiple inconvenient truth, all of which much be understood as a whole.This is a very up-to-date book, with references at the end of each chapter coming up to 2013. An important and eye-opening book that could use some editing By Dennis Littrell The most important thing about this book is the thorough and unmistakable way that Dr. Rozich documents and explains why global warming is just the most obvious "inconvenient truth" that we humans are facing. Global warming is in a sense just a symptom of other inconvenient truths such as depleting ancient aquifers, polluted rivers and lakes, soil erosion, threatened fertilizer supplies and mushrooming landfills, not to mention too many people on the planet. Cleaning up pollution and pumping water from deeper wells requires the use of more energy which results in burning more fossil fuels which results in climate change.The terrible thing about these other inconvenient truths is that some of them are likely to happen sooner rather than later. The looming water shortages in many places in the world are more likely to cause catastrophic human suffering before global warming becomes hellish. The pollution in our water supplies in the form of "endocrine disruptor compounds" from the pharmaceutical industry as Rozich documents can disrupt the hormonal systems in humans and other animals. Those effects could be devastating long before the rise in global temperatures becomes intolerable.Food shortages due to the diminishing reserves of phosphate rocks and soil erosion are on the horizon and are actually happening in many places in the world already.Rozich explains what is happening worldwide in these areas of deep concern. He explains the science and documents the findings. He makes the jargon and the specialized vocabularies intelligible.All and all this is an outstanding piece of work, a textbook on what humans are doing to the planet and what can and cannot be done about it. However there are two problems one minor and just annoying and the other so serious that it will cost Rozich many readers and that's a shame because this is he kind of book that all of humanity needs to read and understand (in particular, heads of state and other politicians.)One, there are far too many typos in the text mostly in the form of words left out of sentences. Often these words are prepositions that are easy to overlook but when missing require the reader to reread the sentence to figure out what is meant. Additionally some words are misused, causing some confusion. I counted something like a dozen before I gave up; there might be a couple of hundred in the book.Two, there is far too much needless repetition. Repetition for emphasis or to shine light from another direction on the subject can be valuable; but most of the repetition in this book is the sort that comes about because the author is using material written at different times and hasn't done the admittedly painstaking task of cutting out what he has already said.I think that all writers can appreciate this quote from Blaise Pascal (also attributed to Mark Twain and others): "I have made this...longer...only because I have not had the time to make it shorter. "Dr. Rozich would be wise to take the time and hire a professional text editor who could easily reduce the size of this important book by a third thus making it more focused, readable and accessible to more people and save readers a lot of time. --Dennis Littrell, author of "The World Is Not as We Think It Is"

4 of 5 people found the following review helpful. A great read By Jack Alan Rozich goes beyond the narrow theme of global warming when analyzing the greater threat facing human civilization. He raises the specter of the Three Headed Hydra, anticipating the train wreck that will occur at the nexus of 1) a rapid increase in human population pursuing a betterment of their standard of living, that requires 2) a major depletion of finite resources that precludes 3) achieving a global goal of economic and environmental stability.To quote Mr. Rozich, who quotes Billy Kwan from the film “The Year of Living Dangerously” that relies on the original quote from Leo Tolstoy, “What then must we do?” And the author proceeds to tell us what must be done. But, refreshingly, only after laying the foundation of science for the reader that allows one to develop an informed opinion of the book’s solutions that Mr. Rozich posits will slay the Three Headed Hydra.

Also he discovers that Count Dracula is not that bad of a guy after all By Frank Scozzari JEIKLEE, another fascinating paranormal novel by author Makala Thomas, is an epistolary tale that takes you into a world of supernatural and illusion. It's the second of this author's novels I've read, and each time I found myself pleasantly entertained.Jeiklee discovers that his mother has a special relationship with Count Dracula. Also he discovers that Count Dracula is not that bad of a guy after all. He's cordial and romantic. Through Jeiklee’s efforts with the aid of his cohort McKenzie, they try to reignite the flames of lost love. A fantasy-full ride takes the reader into the magical lives of spirit characters, namely Spirit McKenzie, and archetypical vampires. I liked the humor and that there was not too much bloodletting. If you've ever read Bram Stoker's Count Dracula, you will appreciate this creative offshoot.

The premise is great, and if she increased the formulated urban mood and romance, and more of a feel of the drama of the jewel thievery and thug life, the story would have been better. It had great flow and easiness but lacked intensity, to put it better. BUT if you're not feeling that critical, and want a simple, urban, romantic, BWWM, this is a good read.

She harbors a secret however that threaten to tear them apart. Ray’s actions will surprise Paris. This whirlwind love affair doesn’t come without its share of suspense. A nice combination of romance and suspense makes this an interesting and fast paced read.
