Better than any official camera manual By Easy Rider This very useful extended camera manual is exactly what is needed to learn the many features that this Leica camera has. It is not small enough to fit in your compact camera case, so read up all you can before you begin trying new features on this great camera.

Most are rehashes of the camera manual with better writing, but not much useful explanation of how various settings work, or why/how you would use them. This book is the rare exception. It's well written with a logical layout. In matter of a few hours reading with the camera nearby, I came away a better understanding and appreciation for what this camera can do!I'm not new, by any means, to digital photography or photography in general, having owned Nikon dSlrs, and using Fuji's current X system cameras and lenses.Let's face it! You just spent all this money for this camera. Invest another $25 for this book. You won't regret it, and I'm sure that like me, you'll be referring back to it for information#

Much more convenient that the instructions CD and with a lot of insight from a guy that knows the camera like the palm of his hand. Very well put together and constructed. And worth every penny.

Excerpt from Ruy BlasVictor Hugo is one of the greatest personalities of French, if not of all, literature. Though not without the faults and eccentricities which frequently characterize great geniuses, he never entered any field of literature without excelling in it. The novel, the lyric, the drama, criticism, all fell from his facile pen without apparent effort. Having at the outset of his career become the champion of a movement which, in spite of its extravagances, wrought a most salutary influence in rescuing French literature from the arid formalism into which it had drifted, he will be the one central individual towards whom will verge all efforts to study and appreciate that movement both in itself and in its relations to antecedent and subsequent forms of French literary thought. The study of some part of Hugo's work is, therefore, essential in any, even the most cursory, survey of French literature. His dramas adapt themselves more easily to such study than his other works, chiefly because the theatre was chosen as the battle-ground of the innovators in their contest with the conservatives. It seems to be conceded, at least by usage, if not otherwise, that Ruy Bias and Hernani are to be the stand-bys for college class-work, and the former has slightly the lead as a favorite, in that the poet has therein reached a higher plane of dramatical lyrism than in the latter.Several editions of Ruy Bias have appeared both in this country and in Europe, but none of them are wholly satisfactory.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Ruy Blas (Classic Reprint), by Victor Hugo

About the Author The best-known of the French Romantic writers, Victor Hugo was a poet, novelist, dramatist, and political critic. Hugo was an avid supporter of French republicanism and advocate for social and political equality, themes that reflect most strongly in his works Les Mis?rables, Notre-Dame de Paris (The Hunchback of Notre-Dame), and Le Dernier jour d'un condamn? (The Last Day of a Condemned Man). Hugo s literary works were successful from the outset, earning him a pension from Louis XVIII and membership in the prestigious Acad?mie fran?aise, and influencing the work of literary figures such as Albert Camus, Charles Dickens, and Fyodor Dostoevsky. Elevated to the peerage by King Louis-Philippe, Hugo played an active role in French politics through the 1848 Revolution and into the Second and Third Republics. Hugo died in 1885, revered not only for his influence on French literature, but also for his role in shaping French democracy. He is buried in the Panth?on alongside Alexandre Dumas and ?mile Zola.

The English Tranlation of Victor Hugo's "Ruy Blas" By Paul Bonsor This is an interesting translation and I quote from the translator's preface.I have adopted the twelve syllable metre of rhyming verse, because it is the nearest approach possible to the great original, and carries out the design I had from the first, namely: to render into English the form, as well as, if possible, the spirit of the great French drama.End of quote. The story is of court intrigue in Spain in the late seventeenth century but Victor Hugo is writing about human nature in general. Not a pretty sight !It is strange for the modern reader to be presented with social attitudes of a bygone age and they are rather difficult for us to appreciate but that is, presumably what it was like in those days. How the world has changed !Rather frustratingly, we do not know the translator's name or when the work was done but I am impressed with his effort. In my opinion, this is certainly worth reading for it's own sake as well as being an excellent pre-cursor to reading it French.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Classic Hugo By Bill R. Moore To English readers, Victor Hugo is known almost entirely for his great novels. However, he was also a dramatist - France's most important through much of the nineteenth century and the preeminent force in Romantic drama generally. His plays are still widely admired in France, and anyone who reads Ruy Blas, often called his dramatic masterpiece, will see why. Much of Hugo's greatness is here in near full force: possibly unequaled emotion portrayal, stirring suspense, bittersweet tragedy, grandiloquent dialogue, etc. Anyone who loves these traits in Hugo's novels will enjoy them here. The real treat is his brilliant lyricism, which reaches truly sublime heights; the speeches are so beautiful and moving that the play is worth reading for them alone. This is in part a love story of the high-pitched kind that only Hugo can make but also a political allegory that sadly still rings true. A distinct move forward from Hugo's simpler prior plays, though not as ambitious, complex, or original as some of his other work, Ruy is a very fine drama that exemplifies Romantic plays and still stands up very well on its own. Those who have been through Hugo's best work and thirst for more would do well to seek out Ruy.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Definetely close to real life. By A Customer I totally enjoyed reading Ruy Blas because it dramatically presents a situation that anyone could live. The character Ruy Blas himself and the relationship he has with the Queen, is one of the most realistic ones I have seen in a play. Not only because he is French, Hugo deserves a 5-star rating on this book!

By Teresa Schulz I love stories set in Old English type towns and with characters you grow attached to. This story was both very suspenseful and at times heart-wrenching, with a very satisfying climax and lovely ending. I'm not a big romance reader, but the romantic elements of the story were very realistic and well handled and I loved seeing this couple's feelings for each other deepen. I enjoyed the story and highly recommend it.

Well Worth Reading By Jackie Roche This is the first book that I've read by Netta Newbound and I'm certainly going to go on read her others.Geraldine has split up from Simon, her husband, and has gone back to live with her parents. A rapist is attacking women in the area. This is a real page-turner. The tension is slowly built up, resulting in a heart-stopping conclusion. A couple of times I was actually holding my breath, wondering what was going to happen next. This is off-set by some giggling moments.I'd recommend this to anyone who enjoys mystery/suspense novels with a bit of romance thrown in.

Excerpt from Anathema: A Tragedy in Seven ScenesThe scene represents a wild, deserted place, the slope of a mountain rising to infinite heights. In the rear of the stage, halfway up the mountain, huge iron gates, tightly closed, indicate the boundary of the world as we conceive it. Beyond the iron gates, which oppress the earth with their enormous weight, in silence and in mystery, dwells the Beginning of every being, the Supreme Wisdom of the universe. At the foot of the Gates stands Someone guarding the entrances, leaning upon a long sword, perfectly motionless. Garbed in wide clothes, which are like stone in the motionlessness of their folds and creases. He hides His face beneath a dark cover, and is Himself the greatest of mysteries. Standing on the boundary separating two worlds, he is dual in his make-up; - in appearance a man, in reality a spirit. An arbitrator between two worlds, He is like unto a huge shield, which gathers all bolts, - all looks, all entreaties, all expectations, reproaches, and curses. The bearer of two elements. He wraps his speech in silence, which is like the silence of the iron gates, and sometimes in human words.Amidst the rocks, looking around on all sides strangely and shyly, appears Anathema, someone accursed.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Anathema: A Tragedy in Seven Scenes (Classic Reprint), by Leonid Andreyev

From the Publisher This play--- a powerful and original example of the best in literature of to-day is in reality a large allegory dealing with human misery in its broadest aspects. Anathema, the leading character, typifies the spirit of reasoning, of revolt, and sometimes Satan--- the spirit, that is, which questions the inscrutable. The drama is the work of a brilliant young Russian author, already known to the American public through a translation of his story, The Seven Who Were Hanged. "Has a great significance and is indisputably a work of a genius." ---New York Evening Post

"The play is a perfect mine of ideas, that crave a deep and thoughtful digestion." --- San Francisco Chronicle

"A monumental allegory of good and evil, richly humanitarian, and of large and noble implications in its philosophy." ---The Dial

About the Author Leonid Nickolayevitch was born in the province of Oryol, in 1871, and studied law at the University of Moscow. Those were days of suffering and starvation; he gazed into the abyss of sorrow and despair. In January 1894 he made an unsuccessful attempt to kill himself by shooting, and then was forced by the authorities to severe penitence, which augmented the natural morbidness of his temperament. As a lawyer his career was short-lived, and he soon abandoned it for literature, beginning as a police-court reporter on the Moscow Courier.

In 1902 he published the short story In the Fog, which for the first time brought him universal recognition. He was imprisoned during the revolution of 1905, together with Maxim Gorky, on political charges. Such are the few significant details of his personal life, for the true Andreyev is entirely in his stories and plays. Between the two Revolutions of 1905 and 1917 Leonid Andreyev was without a doubt the foremost writer in Russia. His name was always spoken with veneration, in mysterious whispers, as a grim portentous magician who descended into the ultimate depths of the nether side of life and fathomed the beauty and tragedy of the struggle.

With Internet access growing worldwide and mobile devices numbering in the billions, we have new, innovative ways to connect with people around the planet. Phil Cooke summarized this new perspective very well when he stated, “I believe it’s time to shift from primarily thinking about missions in terms of geographical boundaries, and start thinking in terms of digital boundaries.” We have a digital missionary field full of always-connected people that we can access and minister to from any Internet-connected device. Instead of using traditional missionaries, raising funds, and flying them to remote places to minister the Gospel, we can put digital devices in the hands of digital missionaries and show them how to connect with people on social networks, web networks, mobile networks, and numerous digital platforms at anytime from anywhere. The time is coming to look at Social Media and other digital platforms as a place to connect with current believers and reach others with the life-changing message that is the Gospel. This digital missionary field is growing, and the only thing holding us back is the lack of knowledge on how to fully utilize this technology to reach God’s people. But don’t fret, friends. Once you are done with this book, you will have more than enough information on how to reach millions online via The iChurch Method.

"The Luftwaffe - the German Air Force - will no longer have a decisive influence on the outcome of World War II, no matter how long it takes to beat Hitler. No doubt, we will hear of the Luftwaffe before the war is over. We will hear a lot. But don't let us be deceived. No matter what happens, the Luftwaffe can never be used as a strategic first-line weapon within the Nazi plan. It can play no role but that of a tactical and auxiliary weapon." Can it really be true that in 1941 insiders knew the Luftwaffe was a spent force and a failed organization? This remarkable, but little-known book, first published in 1943, argues how pure incompetence in planning and strategy left the Luftwaffe hopelessly stretched and exposed. The Nazi regime designed its airforce for Blitzkrieg, and Blitzkrieg alone. During the invasion of Poland, 2,500 aircraft were lost on account of a failure to produce any spare parts. When long campaigns set in in Russia, North Africa and Western Europe, the collapse of the Luftwaffe became inevitable. Crammed full of fascinating detail, this prescient book shows how German efficiency was fatally paralyzed by the dead-hand of the corrupt Nazi Party. Hermann Göring, the head of the Luftwaffe, was chiefly responsible; his wholesale thefts to fund a lavish lifestyle add particular color to this picture of woeful neglect.

Could it be that he is also propagandizing for the USA. His knowledge of the inside workings of the Nazi regime and his acquaintance with individuals in it is extraordinary. It is interresting to see how self interested individuals even in the Nazi party can wreak destruction form within.

Dark Future: A Dystopian Sci-fi Romance Novel (The Dark Future Series Book 3), by KC Klein

Review What Jess the "Romanceaholic" said about this science fiction romance-"Dark, gritty, and utterly entrancing, this book absolutely blew my socks off...  It's bloody. It's violent. All of the characters, not just the main protagonists, are put through literal hell more times than I can count. And yet out of that darkness bloomed an absolutely gorgeous love story against seemingly impossible odds... Yet, I believed in their romance. Two lost souls, surrounded by unspeakable horror, finding solace in each other? Utterly and absolutely delicious."

About the Author

KC Klein is the author of Dark Future, a sexy futuristic time-travel. She became serious about writing three years ago and was as surprised as anyone when her stories took a turn toward dark and snarky. Today, she divides her time between taking care of her family and driving in circles around Arizona, too busy creating stories in her head to pay attention to mere road signs.

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. Very, very dark By Jen (Red Hot Books) This is a very dark book - one of the darkest I have read in a very long time. It made me cringe. It made me heartsick. It made me ask myself, how much can two characters take? And what would you be willing to do for love and for survival? The bulk of the story is set in a futuristic world that was a lot like the future in the Terminator movies, except there were aliens picking off the humans instead of robots. Medical intern Kris Davenport has been transported decades into the future after being forced into a portal by a future version of herself. Future-Kris assures her that she has a mission. That she must save a man named ConRad.The man in question turns out to be the commander of the unit of soldiers who saves Kris from the aliens when she is thrust into their world. It's anything but love at first sight. ConRad is stoic and severe, a consummate soldier. He and Kris clash constantly as she is indoctrinated into her new reality. Women are very rare. And most of the ones who do exist, live a solitary existence, working to heal and protect what's left of humanity.Of course, things do develop between Kris and ConRad eventually. But it's when it seems like they just might have a chance at happiness that it all hits the fan. Kris and ConRad have to endure some truly horrific events: beatings, tortures, rapes... not to mention the heart-wrenching emotional wringer they both go through in the second half of the book. This is no light reading. But I couldn't give up on these two. I had to see if they could pull themselves out of the darkness and find any shreds of happiness and hope for their future. The book was compelling. It took awhile to warm up to the characters, because at first ConRad was such a jerk and Kris was such a whiner. But they both moved toward better versions of themselves over the course of the book. The time travel and those elements wrapped up in Kris changing the past/future got a little sticky for me at the ending... and I would have loved to see a little more resolution with the fate of the villain. But I didn't want to put it down. It had me on the edge of my seat and never shied away from the really hard stuff. It was good, but you need to go into it, knowing what to expect. 4 stars.

The world-building had fascinating layers, introduced over the course of the story--very inventive and frightening. And the evolution of the main characters was compelling. The story is told from the POV of Kris, who was both relatable and kick-ass. The future might be dark, but the book has humor laced throughout (shower scene is hilarious). The heat between the main characters sizzles and the love story promises a new beginning. I hope there's a second installment. I want to read more. Dark Future

Martin I just finished reading Dark Future and kept clicking my kindle button wishing for even more. 10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. We Need More of These Books By Brian ó Séaghdha Every generation complains that the one after them is ruining the planet. Sadly, we HAVE seen many changes in social mores over time, and this book brings to light the importance of maintaining one's moral compass. Not that long ago I worked in a pharmaceutical company that suddenly hit tough times. My boss asked for several of us to cross the line with what would be considered to be distribution of medical information about some existing products that was way off the reservation both from a fact perspective as well as by FDA regulations. Two of us took a stand, and while unfortunately sometimes taking a stand means that the only way out may be to resign -- without having another job to go to -- that's the road less taken that I took. Why I think this book is relevant is because of how others perceived the actions that we took. I had one person, whom I thought was a good friend, tell me that "taking the high road means we'll all be watching you as you fall" and "just roll over like the rest of us -- you have kids you know." My boss, who should have been fired for his actions, was threatening the same actions of us.When you live in a society where we often "go along to get along," where do you find that line you shouldn't cross? What do you do when you get there? Are you sure its your moral compass and not something else taking you down that road? Is being right, the right thing to be?Things worked out fantastic for me, and what's even better is that I can look myself in the mirror every single day.So while I do think that doing the "right thing" has a lot to do with how you were raised, this book helps you examine moral issues at work and help you begin to sort out where the "line" is before you are dragged there overnight by circumstances you cannot control.

The Girl With The Green Eyes: A Play In Four Acts, by Clyde Fitch

About the Author Born William Clyde Fitch at Elmira, New York, he wrote over 60 plays, 36 of them original, which varied from social comedies and farces to melodrama and historical dramas. As the only child to live to adulthood, his father, Captain William G. Fitch, a graduate of West Point and a Union officer in the Civil War, encouraged him to become an architect or to engage in a career of business, but his mother, Alice Clark, in whose eyes he could do no wrong, always believed in his talent. She would hire the architectural firm of Hunt & Hunt to design the sarcophagus set inside an open Tuscan temple for his final resting place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Bronx, New York. Fitch graduated from Amherst College in 1886, where he was a member of Chi Psi Fraternity. He was the first American playwright to publish his plays. His first work of note was Beau Brummell (1890), a major work set in the English Regency which became a showcase for actor Richard Mansfield (1857–1907), who would play the title role for the rest of his life. His 1892 play Masked Ball (an adaption from Alexandre Bisson's Le Veglione) would be the first time that Charles Frohman put Maude Adams opposite John Drew Jr. which led to many future successes. In 1900, Captain Jinks of the Horse Marines, made a star of Ethel Barrymore. He is remembered particularly for his works such as Nathan Hale (1898), The Climbers (1901), The Girl with the Green Eyes (which ran 108 performances at the Savoy Theatre in 1902, and starred Robert Drouet as John Austin), The Woman In the Case, (which also starred Drouet and ran 89 performances at the Herald Square Theatre in 1905),The Truth (1907) and The City (1909). His works were popular on both sides of the Atlantic. His play based on the heroine of John Greenleaf Whittier's poem Barbara Frietchie met with mixed reviews in 1899 because of the romance he added to the tale, but it would be successfully revived a number of times. In 1896 he wrote the lyrics to a popular song Love Makes The World Go 'Round, with the arrangement by William Furst.

Jinny Tillman marries the stoic (and quite eligible) Mr. Jack Austin. Being deliriously happy she takes each bridesmaid aside and gives her honest opinion how each needs to change to find a husband, thus enabling each to capture this brand of happiness. One bridesmaid is decidedly sad and Jinny feels she is unsatisfactorily in love. This guess at her reception starts the play on it's green eyed journey. This play was fun to read and I could see it easily being produced today with just a little updating. The more I think of it, the more I would like to see this on the movie screen. Would make a good romcom with the right stars attached. Recommend for a quick, light read!

Although, popular in the early 1900's it would be difficult to get an audience to accept and enjoy this play today. It is very dated - with issues of men and women that are certain to be solved very differently today. Upbeat and light, and perhaps good for someone who is looking for a play from that era.
